Obama camp: Rep. Boren ‘has his facts wrong’
Source: The Hill

Presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama’s campaign, in an internal memo, is disputing one Democratic congressman’s characterization of the Illinois senator’s record after the member went on the record Tuesday saying he would not endorse his party’s nominee.

Rep. Dan Boren (D-Okla.) told The Associated Press that Obama is too liberal for his district, and he does not work well with Republicans despite his rhetoric.

In the internal memo, which was obtained by The Hill, the campaign lays out surrogate talking points and says that “unfortunately, Congressman Boren has his facts wrong.”

The document outlines a way for surrogates to refute charges that Obama does not have a history of reaching across the aisle, though it does not offer any suggested talking points for dealing with Boren’s charge that Obama is “the most liberal senator in the U.S. Senate.”

10. Wouldn't that be a Boran?
He's a lying sack of shit. They trotted out that same bullshit against Kerry in 2004.

4. Please don't mischaracterize us here.
All Okies don't share the same values. I consider myself a yellow dog democrat. Boren stands with the Blue Dog Democrats , a centrist, conservative branch who gangs up with the Republicans on many issues. But I wasn't going to vote for the Repug when he ran, would you?

8. Not originally from Oklahoma...
but I live here now. Sure, there are knuckle-dragging rednecks here that are an abomination to the human race (i.e. like the jackass who decided to knock down birds nests, killing 186 baby birds in the process the other day), but there are those sorts in every state, even the bluest of the blue states. Some of the most enlightening, leftist people I've met live here and are actually born and raised in the rural parts of the state.

20. There is diversity, then...
There is "off the reservation". Dan Boren has gone very far off the res. If he thinks he can pull a Lieberman, then he deserves the repercussions.

27. Be interesting to see how he wants Sen Obama to fundraise for him
be even more interesting to see the Rep reminded of his comments - and possibly fund raise for a primary rival.....

26. Well they can't be like Lieberman or Zell miller, can they?
I don't expect lockstep, but what I do expect is for Democratic candidates and members to support the general tenets of the party and to DEFINITELY support their nominee for President.

24. Kalyn Free was his Democratic Primary Opponent
She now is active in promoting indigenous people to run for political office - INDN.org

Boren, a Blue Dog Democrat, took advantage of name recognition and the backing of his father - former Governor of Oklahoma and former Senator, David Boren who is now President of the University of Oklahoma.

I hope with the Obama Administration we can diminish the influence of some of these legacies and the nepotism that infects our democratic processes.:patriot:

13. Talking points re: the charge that Obama is the "most liberal" in the Senate:

1. Obama is not calling for Universal Health Care

2. Obama is not a Yellow Dog Democrat; he's a centrist

3. Obama has called for military action against Pakistan and Iran; not necessarily the emblem of a liberal

4. Obama has not called for Bush/Cheney to be impeached, as most liberals (and dare I say it, many Americans) want

5. Obama is NOT for gay marriage but he is for civil unions. Liberals generally support full marriage rights for gays/lesbians.

These are the Talking Points that I can come up with so far. They are the major ones...

15. What worries me most...
...is The Hill getting a copy of the memo. So far, I can only remember this and the other memo with talking points re: Clinton race baiting.

I hope this is going to continue (or get worse)

And this joker Boron? Let's hope he gets another challenger in two years or so. Perhaps they will have better luck.

I guess Rep. Boren doesn't agree with his father Senator Boren, because David Boren did endorse Senator Obama.Hmmm, we live in interesting times.

23. I don't know what boren's agenda is, but
we all know Obama is always reaching out for compromise so his "I won't endorse the Democratic nominee even though I'm suppose to be a Democrat" rings HOLLOW.
