Extension of jobless benefits loses in House
Edited on Wed Jun-11-08 05:19 PM by Lone_Star_Dem
Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON — The House has defeated a bill to extend unemployment benefits for Americans who can’t find a job.

Democrats needed a two-thirds vote to pass a bill giving all unemployed Americans an extra 13 weeks of jobless benefits. They also needed that margin to overcome a threatened veto by the White House.

But the final vote on the bill was 279-144, which wasn’t enough. Republicans complained that the bill would give money to states that still have low unemployment rates. They also said the Democratic legislation would let people get long-term jobless benefits by working as little as two weeks.

And I bet almost every one of those that voted against the extension is a "good Christian". :grr:

2. What is with those Reeptiles???
It's election season and they're voting
against anything and everything that
would help voters.

They are going to lose soooo bad in November..

.. unless they election is fixed or gamed
some way due to voter ID, Diebold and the
like, and obstructions in getting to the
polls.

3. Are your sure? All I heard on NPR on the ride home was a story about the head
of Obama's Veep exploratory team resigning from a volunteer position. That one man is so much more important and worthy of news than millions of out of work Americans with no source of income.

I mean - NPR knows how to report on news that impact American lives - don't they? They know their way into and out of the white house - don't they? They can cover congressional proceedings can't they? They don't get talking points from conservative think tanks - do they?!

Surely that silly defeated bill was meaningless election year congressional blather, meant only to sway public opinion.

9. You gotta be fucking kidding me!
It failed with unemployment as high as it is? WTF. I think winning a BIG number of House and Senate seats this fall might be just as important as winning the Presidency.

11. Do you hear me DEM candidates for office!? USE THIS AS YOUR MAIN ATTACK
to defeat these weak and evil GOP bastards for their Congressional seats - they'll vote for pay raises, to extend this dreadful war, to give tax breaks to the wealthy Oil Industry like "corporate welfare", but with unemployment surging they had the F*****G NERVE to vote down this bill!

You want to win - run a negative ad on those bastards with every dollar you can!
