EPA chiefs could face contempt
Source: AP

WASHINGTON — A House committee chairman Friday threatened to hold the head of the EPA and a White House budget official in contempt of Congress for not handing over documents about new smog requirements and a decision blocking California greenhouse gas limits.
Democratic Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Los Angeles, chairman of the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee, said he would hold a vote in his committee next week on a contempt resolution, if he doesn't get the information.

He made the threat in letters to EPA Administrator Stephen Johnson and Susan Dudley, administrator for information and regulatory affairs at the White House Office of Management and Budget.

Waxman and others have complained about evidence that the White House intervened with the Environmental Protection Agency to produce more industry-friendly outcomes on the smog and greenhouse gas issues. Waxman has issued a series of subpoenas to learn more, but weeks have passed and neither EPA nor the Office of Management and Budget has fully complied. Waxman said Friday he waited long enough.

5. Why do we continue
to believe that any of these career politicians hold anything more important than keeping their positions and not rocking the boat of their corporate sponsors. There is not too much difference in the parties from a product point of view. Yes, the Republicans are slime and the Democrats speak like they are for the common good, but nothing ever gets produced. You can only blame it on a lack of majority or wanting to win back the White House for so long. There are of course exceptions and I thought Waxman was one of them (Kucinich definitely is). We need to stop playing the game -- at one point the Democrats (and even the Republicans that care) should just boycott the system.
