Get Osama Bin Laden before I leave office, orders George W Bush
Source: The Times

President George W Bush has enlisted British special forces in a final attempt to capture Osama Bin Laden before he leaves the White House.

Defence and intelligence sources in Washington and London confirmed that a renewed hunt was on for the leader of the September 11 attacks. “If he can say he has killed Saddam Hussein and captured Bin Laden, he can claim to have left the world a safer place,” said a US intelligence source.

The Special Boat Service (SBS) and the Special Reconnaissance Regiment have been taking part in the US-led operations to capture Bin Laden in the wild frontier region of northern Pakistan. It is the first time they have operated across the Afghan border on a regular basis.

Intelligence on the whereabouts of Bin Laden is sketchy, but some analysts believe he is in the Bajaur tribal zone in northwest Pakistan. He has evaded capture for nearly seven years. “Bush is swinging for the fences in the hope of scoring a home run,” said an intelligence source, using a baseball metaphor.

3. He's dead but the problem I see is the Pakistani
problems that have already happened with our
forces already killing Pakistani troops and innocent civilians
but they will need to make "kills" in order to show progress
to our commander in theft.

They will probably drag Osama out of freezer right before the election,
thaw him out and put his head on a plate.

5. LMAO. After almost 7 years *now* hes making a push to get Bin Laden?
This should have been priority #1 since 9-11-2001.
If he concentrated the $3 billion a month on Bin Laden instead of on Iraq, then we would have had Osama by early 2002.

8. Why?
Bin Laden is a patsy. Check the FBI most wanted...he is NOT wanted for 9/11. When pressed about this the FBI responded by saying that there is no evidence linking him to 9/11. Did a cave dweller have NORAD stand down?
Wake up...9/11 was a false flag operation.

I have done 5 years of full time research on media deception...and 9/11. The more you look the more obvious it becomes. No theories...just examine the official body of evidence.

Edited on Sun Jun-15-08 02:58 AM by Ghost Dog
that the source for your current top news story (Gore Vidal), in Spanish, is here: http://www.elmundo.es/elmundo/2008/06/14/internacional/1213405806.html

Worth translating in entirety. Do you have the resources to do this? If not, perhaps I will have a go, slowly, myself.

I'll translate, roughly, this passage here:

--> Q: In one of your most recent books, "Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace", you speak of a coup d'etat behind 9/11...
R: It was not committed directly by Bush, rather it was Dick Cheney and the Pentagon hawks. It was an arrangement akin to that of Japan in the 17th century: a Mikado without power, in the hands of a vice-president 'shogun' and his warrior advisors. The only lacked a 'casus belli' in order to launch their barrage of lies, and later this militarist and Orwellian concept of war against terror, which is an adaptation of Truman's invention of Cold War.
Q: But you wouldn't deny that 9/11 looked like the closest thing to an attack...
R: Yes, but carried out in any case by Osama Bin Laden and another two or three people, not by an army of millions of Islamic radicals, as they would like us to believe. And of course not by Sadam Hussein.
Q: You also assert that the Bush Administration allowed 9/11 to happen...
R: There is a report that was submitted to the President weeks (prior) entitled "Bin Laden disposed to attack the USA". This warned of the possibility of attacks using commercial airplanes. Do we need any further proof? The fact is that we have a President so lazy that he doesn't even read the reports that they prepare for him...

But we had a war in Iraq instead. I think that's your legacy, Georgie: a fake war that killed half a million real people and drove another million crazy.

The next big terrorist attack will involve someone with considerable experience fighting the Americans... in Iraq. That's also gonna be part of your legacy, Georgie boy.

75. I totally Agree
The Reuters and Wall Street crowd are not going to stand by and allow a greater imbecile than Bush to continue to draw the lifeblood out of the economy. They need someone like Obama to prop up the economy for another four to six years until they have successfully completed the transfer of power to themselves. Unfortunately Obama will not succeed in reducing their control over the economy and he will meet the same fate as JFK, RFK, etc., if he attempts to thwart their plans.

17. He can already claim to have left the world a safer place
But it will be a lie.

Even if "he" captures in Osama Bin Laden, it will still be a lie.

George W. Bush has effectively recruited thousands of radicals who would gladly martyr themselves to do our country harm, made millions of their countrymen either willing to assist them or indifferent to their actions, damaged our country's credibility, lost us allies and made the collection of on-the-ground intelligence significantly more difficult.

It will take decades to repair the damage Bush has done. And the first step is not a hail-Mary pass to capture Bin Laden but rather the acknowledgment that we don't belong in Iraq.

19. In November, 2007 interview, Bhutto names Osama bin Laden's killer as Omar Sheikh.
Before her assassination, Benazir Bhutto identified Omar Sheikh as the murderer of Osama bin Laden., November 2, 2007

Get Osama Bin Laden before I leave office, orders George W Bush, June 15, 2008, London Sunday Times

President George W Bush has enlisted British special forces in a final attempt to capture Osama Bin Laden before he leaves the White House.

.....

The hunt was “completely sanctioned” by the Pakistani government, according to a UK special forces source. It involves the use of Predator and Reaper unmanned aerial vehicles fitted with Hellfire missiles that can be used to take out specific terrorist targets.

.....

America rarely acknowledges the use of Predator and Reaper drones, but the most recent known strike was on a suspected Al-Qaeda safe house in the Pakistani province of North Waziristan earlier in June. Villagers said the house was empty.

Intelligence on the whereabouts of Bin Laden is sketchy, but some analysts believe he is in the Bajaur tribal zone in northwest Pakistan. He has evaded capture for nearly seven years. “Bush is swinging for the fences in the hope of scoring a home run,” said an intelligence source, using a baseball metaphor.

.....

Pakistan lodged a strong diplomatic protest last week over what it claimed was an airstrike on a border post with Afghanistan that killed 11 of its troops.

The United States declined to accept this version of events. “It is still not exactly clear what happened,” said Stephen Hadley, the national security adviser.

FUBAR.

Who else thinks this is a cover for what Bush is about to do in Iran?

20. I have been predicting this for a long time.
They have actually known where he was for a long time. They have watched him and now, to help the Republicans win the election, they will "capture" or kill him.

Too bad for them, the Supreme Court has deprived them of the show trials against the alleged terrorist accomplices. That is going to lessen the propaganda, politically dramatic impact of the whole show for them.

They could have arrested and tried Bin Laden long, long ago.

Bush probably thinks that if he captures Bin Laden, Congress will try to overrule the Supreme Court ruling. Bush does not seem to understand what the Constitution is or that it limits his power.

Surely it would be illegal for British forces to 'enrol' in the US armed forces (#1 in the OED); but #2 in the OED: "to secure as help or support" could well be the (rather mercenary) sense applied here.

Why employ British special forces? Well, they are often said to be the best.

I wonder how much Bushco is planning to pay for these and other services rendered?

(ed. I comment without prejudice to the history, nature, rôle in 9/11 and/or existence alive or not of said Ben Ladin).

67. Trouble is the SAS and SBS are not very politically correct.
Edited on Sun Jun-15-08 09:32 AM by KCabotDullesMarxIII
It was reported in the papers a while back that, at the behest of Geoffrey Hoon, the then Defence Minister (not Aggression Minister, of course), an officer of the SAS was stating that the Regiment would have to begin inducting women to fight in the ranks.

An SAS soldier replied, "But Sir, we're not PC. We kill people.....". I imagine a plaintive tone, if not exactly querulous tone, could only have added to the humour.

Apparently, Hoon has vigorously denied this story ever since, although the journalist in one paper, at least, claims that his informant absolutely stood by his story.

27. Kinda late, George.
He knows he'll go down in history as a failure, so his last hope is to catch the guy who salvaged his presidency - otherwise he would have been a one-termer and wouldn't have been able to look better than daddy...Saddam would have beaten both Bushes as well.

9/17/01: "There's an old poster out west, as I recall, that said, 'Wanted: Dead or Alive.'"

12/14/01: President Bush pledged anew Friday that Osama bin Laden will be taken "dead or alive," no matter how long it takes, amid indications that the suspected terrorist may be bottled up in a rugged Afghan canyon. The president, in an Oval Office meeting with Thailand's prime minister, would not predict the timing of bin Laden's capture but said he doesn't care how the suspect is brought to justice. "I don't care, dead or alive — either way," Bush said. "It doesn't matter to me."

3/13/02: Asked if he believes that "the threat that bin Laden posed won't truly be eliminated until he is found either dead or alive?"

"I don't know where he is. I -- I'll repeat what I said. I truly am not that concerned about him."

Bonus: At the same press conference (3/13/02), when asked about Cheney building support for "possible" action against Iraq:

"I am deeply concerned about Iraq. And so should the American people be concerned about Iraq. And so should people who love freedom be concerned about Iraq."

He may be the Decider, but his the portion of his brain responsible for Concern must be right above his sinuses - serious coke damage.

Restore honor, integrity and DIGNITY to the presidency.

And then they will say we found him and here is his body.

30. Yes let's get
Obama. I think this is to remind people that Obama and Osama sound alike so maybe these two men are alike. News reports about looking for Osama and then next story talking about Obama. I think Osama is dead and even if he weren't he didn't do 9/11. I think it's part of a scare tactic and a chance for people to hear Osama Obama Osama.

Dear Mr. Bush, All you need is a shovel and a little brow sweat. Digging up a dead man takes a litle bit of time but it should not take as long as this conflagration in Iraq. You'll probably discover the body around October--in time for the election.

47. Now that he's no longer useful, why not.
Bin Laden was useful to the Keystone Cops that infest the Whitehouse during the run up to the Iraq war. They don't need him any more and the Shrubster's looking at his legacy.

Sure, why not. Let's get Bin Laden if we haven't gotten him already. Either find him and kill him (or defrost him) right in time for the election.

49. Sure, go ahead, thaw him out.
Such a strategy by the republics could easily backfire on them, and I think Obama's just the guy to do the backfireing.

"You mean that after six years of being Enemy Number One first (to properly scare the people), then 'not worried about' (since his usefulness as a scare tactic was waning, and El Presidente had committed us to looking in the wrong country for the wrong thing), then Enemy Number One again (since the administration perceived we weren't in a proper state of panic), and now supposedly killed just before an election to hang as a trophy -- the timing of all this doesn't seem a little too convenient to you?"

He'd say it better, I'm sure. But the closer to the election they drag him out and patch up the freezer-burn, I think the louder it could backfire.

51. What an idiot.
Watching bush flail and flop around in these waning days of The Disaster is truly pathetic. He needs to have a fork stuck in him. (No, I mean it.)

bush has been swung back and forth on bin Laden so sharply we're all dizzy. First it's dead or alive, then he really doesn't think about him, now it's tally-ho, let's go git 'im!

What an idiot.

53. And now there's this: Karzai issues warning to Pakistan
Afghan President Hamid Karzai has warned that he is ready to send troops over the border into Pakistan to confront militants based there.

He said that when militants crossed over from Pakistan to kill Afghans and coalition troops, his nation had the right to retaliate in "self-defence".

Mr Karzai's remarks came two days after Taleban fighters attacked an Afghan jail, freeing hundreds of prisoners.

Pakistan denies providing a safe haven for the Taleban or other militants.

Mr Karzai has long pleaded for Pakistan and international forces to confront militants in Pakistan but has not before threatened to send troops over the border.

54. Of course you will, George, of course you will
Either

1) You've been incompetent for 7 years, and you're only now getting serious about this in a futile attempt to keep the GOP in power

or

2) You've known where he is all this time (whether dead or alive), and have been waiting for the right opportunity to "find" him

You knew that you could control the '04 election, so that really wasn't a big concern. But with McCain struggling, you know that you need to break out all the stops in order to help your buddy out.

55. Get Bush before he leaves office, orders Osama Bin Laden
Edited on Sun Jun-15-08 07:19 AM by minnesota_liberal
This scenario seems unlikely, but I wonder if anyone's considered the possibility.

Actually, Osama Bin Laden's cause is best served by Bush finishing his second term, raking in big bucks while "working" for the Carlyle Group and costing taxpayers several million per year for Secret Service protection.

IF what we have been told about his health is true, there's no way he could be on the run in the wild mountains of that region while requiring dialysis treatments.

Either he's dead from renal failure, or he's alive and well and on the CIA payroll.

How many 6'6" men residing in a cave would you think could go undetected for this period of time? And with a reward on his head? And industry interrupted from fighting in that region? You can rest assured that some warlord has already collected that reward three times over and the decomposing body of Bin Laden is definitely not a threat to out security.

Osama's attempting to escape from the White House, that they've got him kept somewhere...

President George W Bush has enlisted British special forces in a final attempt to capture Osama Bin Laden before he leaves the White House.

It wouldn't surprise me if he was kept for a special occasion...

...just so you could use scare tactics to help steal the '04 election. If you actually gave two shits about catching him, you could have had him in late '01 or early '02. Instead, you pulled our Special Forces off the job (in favor of the fucking Pakistanis!) and let him get away.

Nice going, you sack of shit.
