The Politico) The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has subpoenaed the Justice Dept. in a bid to get documents relating to the outing of former CIA operative Valerie Plame Wilson.

Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.), chairman of the committee, is seeking FBI interviews with President Bush and Vice President Cheney related to what role, if any, they played in the scandal, as well as "unredacted interviews with Karl Rove, Scooter Libby, Condoleezza Rice, Scott McClellan, and Cathie Martin," according to a letter that Waxman sent Attorney General Michael Mukasey on June 3.

A House panel on Monday issued a subpoena to Attorney General Michael Mukasey to force the release of documents related to President Bush’s interview with investigators regarding the leaking of a CIA operative’s name.

The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform issued the subpoena to get Mukasey to send to the panel the FBI interview reports of Bush and Vice President Cheney, as well as other documents related to the outing of former CIA operative Valerie Plame Wilson.

“Although these reports will not be made available to the committee, we remain open to any reasonable suggestions on how to provide information that the committee believes it may need,” said Keith Nelson, DoJ’s principal deputy assistant attorney general, in a letter to committee chairman Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.). “It continues to be our belief that the extensive interview reports for White House staff and other documents that have been and may be made available for review will satisfy the committee’s needs.”

4. They can issue them....
...like paper airplanes as WE are the ones that pay for the previous ones that were NEVER followed through. Waste of my DIME and my TIME!!

When will everyone see that this is just a distraction so that it can 'look' like something is being done when in actuality, nothing gets accomplished as the same players keep playing the same game over and over and WE have to pay for the dog and pony show. Wonder if they'd stop the nonsense if THEY were footing the bill....

Hate to say it but this 110th Democrat-controlled Congress are nothing but cowards and appeasers to * and company...

9. Welcome to DU WR- many of us share your view.
We have seen the "THIS is IT!!! THIS will expose the criminals" moments
on DU for years now. Personally, I and I suspect others, have
lost count of the "this is the smoking gun" scandals that
were being investigated. You're right, to date, NOTHING has
come of any of them.

Smoke and mirrors I'm afraid.

5. When are they going to stop playing GAMES
With this outlaw regime

Is this just a stalling tactic until the end of the Bush Reign
just before we are told, The Nation needs time to heal" ???

Fact is this Nation and the entire World will never heal until
these criminals are brought before a judge for sentencing.

They will simply hide away until their next assault on our
Constitution and our Republic.

They truly do hate america for which it stands.

10. Why is he asking Mukasey? He should as Fitzgerald directly, since
Fitz has plenary attorney-general-level authority in all things Plame-leak-related.

Fitz's office has the interviews. Fitz's office can provide them directly to Congress upon (subpoena) request, full stop, do not pass GO, do not collect 200 dollars.

Fitz office of the special counsel site is still active. http://www.usdoj.gov/usao/iln/osc/

Fitzgerald: Can't say much to Congress
Posted 3/14/2007 8:06 PM | Comment | Recommend E-mail | Save | Print |

WASHINGTON (AP) — Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald, who spent years investigating the 2003 leak of a CIA operative's identity, told lawmakers Wednesday that he could offer little help during congressional hearings on the leak.
Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., asked Fitzgerald last week to meet with members of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which will hold hearings on the Bush administration's handling of CIA operative Valerie Plame's classified employment status.

Plame's identity was leaked to reporters after her husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, began criticizing the Bush administration's prewar intelligence on Iraq.

In a letter to Waxman, Fitzgerald did not refuse to cooperate with the congressional probe but made it clear he had little to say.

"I do not believe it would be appropriate for me to offer opinions, as your letter suggests the committee may seek, about the ultimate responsibility of senior White House officials for the disclosure of Ms. Wilson's identity," Fitzgerald wrote.

House committee demands Bush, Cheney FBI transcripts

WASHINGTON — A House of Representatives committee on Monday subpoenaed records of the FBI's interviews with President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney during the investigation into the leak of a covert CIA officer's name.

The Committee on Oversight and Government Reform demanded the documents from Attorney General Michael Mukasey days before former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan is expected to testify about Cheney's role in leaking CIA officer Valerie Plame's identity to the news media in 2003.

Committee Chairman Henry Waxman, D-Calif., asked for the transcripts late last year and renewed his request earlier this month after the committee received an unedited transcript of grand jury testimony in which former Cheney aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby was quoted as saying it was "possible" that Cheney had told him to leak Plame's name.

Waxman said that McClellan's book, "What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and Washington's Culture of Deception," also raised additional questions about whether Cheney had directed McClellan to "mislead the public."
