Iran has no plans to move money out of Europe
Source: AFP

TEHRAN (AFP) - Iran is not planning to move assets from European banks, a banking official said on Tuesday, rejecting reports it is making major withdrawals to dodge impending EU sanctions.

"No money from Iranian banks has been transferred out of European banks to Iran or other countries. And it will not be (moved)," the managing director of Bank Mellat, Ali Divandari, was quoted as saying by the Mehr news agency.

"There is no reason for the transfer of this money," said Divandari, whose bank is one of Iran's major state banks.

The United States and European Union are seeking to ratchet up pressure on Tehran in the standoff over its contested nuclear programme by imposing a range of financial measures against the Islamic republic.

1. I read yesterday that they withdrew 75 Billion dollars.
It was from Reuters: http://www.reuters.com/article/topNews/idUSDAH63024720080616?feedType=RSS&feedName=topNews&rpc=22&sp=true

Sourced to a Tehran Weekly, I understand that it may not be very reliable. But there seems to be a lot of mixed messages out there. Thanks for the information!

2. Perhaps they feel they've made their point well enough?
After all, money is the universal language and the potential loss of $75 billion speaks pretty loudly.

3. Hm, I just read yesterday that
Iran was moving $75 billion from European banks to Asia.
Now they're saying they're not?
==========
Ok trying to follow the sequence of events:
Bush goes to England, acts tough. Brown says, "We'll freeze Iranian deposits to show them we mean business".
Next day, Iran announces it will withdraw $75 billion from European banks.

European banks would be devastated by such a big withdrawal.
I'll just bet those bankers made some QUICK phone calls to Iran.

Wanna bet who's the liar here?

his "scientific methodology" of running the economy has embarrased many ;) At least they are no Zimbabwee since they sit on oil and inflate the price when needed

money used for laundering was moved;

Secret government documents detailing the UK's policies towards fighting global terrorist funding, drugs trafficking and money laundering have been found on a London-bound train and handed to 'The Independent on Sunday'.

The government papers, left on a train destined for Waterloo station, on Wednesday, contain criticism of countries such as Iran that are signed up to the global Financial Action Task Force (FATF), an inter-governmental body created to combat financial crime and the financing of terrorism.

The confidential files outline how the trade and banking systems can be manipulated to finance illicit weapons of mass destruction in Iran. They spell out methods to fund terrorists, and address the potential fraud of commercial websites and international internet payment systems. The files also highlight the weakness of HM Revenue & Customs' (HMRC) IT systems, which track financial fraud.

The Independent on Sunday has returned the documents, and will divulge no details

Unfortunately, I can't check out the official mouthpiece of the mullahs news wire as it appears unresponsive;

Should only be a temporary glitch imo ( no reason to suspect undersea cables have been cut inside or outside Iran ) but at any rate, whatever funds remains will most likely be frozen along with those same assets in 1979 which are still being held;

5. interesting, and thanx
for the sleuthing.

I've read in other articles that Iran is hiding assets. They probably have hundreds, if not thousands, of checking accounts with smaller balances all over the place. Plus unnumbered accounts in Swiss banks.

Re: Iran.
I believe they are the world's #4 biggest oil producer. They are strong, and getting stronger.
Right now there is an enormous transfer of wealth going on. I believe Iran makes something on the order of $2.6 billion per day from their oil sales.
Per d-a-y.

Our dependence on foreign oil is killing us.

Wonder if somebody got wind of a plot against the family ? And a purge may be underway ?
But,
don't hold your breath that they really intend to "eat their own" when it's all said and done.

Article from the official MSM mouthpiece of the House of Saud. ;

Officials close to uncovering financiers of terror:

JEDDAH: Interior Minister Prince Naif has announced that security officials are close to uncovering the sources of terror funding in the Kingdom. “We have found things (related to terror funding) ... that can be used as evidence against Al-Qaeda’s financial backers,” Prince Naif told Asharq Al-Awsat daily in an exclusive interview published yesterday.

“Without financial backing, terrorists could not have moved as they did,” Prince Naif said. He added that further investigations were needed in order to get a complete picture. He expressed hope that the findings of the investigation would soon be made public.

Prince Naif said the Kingdom was committed to confronting Al-Qaeda, regardless of the group’s change of tactics and methods.

He said the Iraqi government had promised to turn over the Saudis detained in Iraq. The Kingdom has received a number of the Saudi detainees there, but “there are still a large number who have not been turned over. We are still waiting for the Iraqis to deliver on their promises.”

The interior minister said that he did not think there were Saudis imprisoned in Iran but he did not rule out that there might be individuals affiliated with Al-Qaeda detained in Iranian jails.

The House of Saud didn't complain originally about the wahibi's going into Iraq but now...with the group’s change of tactics and methods. ;) ( "attacking in another direction" out of Iraq) they are looking into the funding of these fundies.
Wonder what type of interrogation the Saudis have in store for the nationals that went "A-Jihading" over the border.

Oh, they'll get names and account #'s out of them even if they have to make them up imo.
