(Rep Jean) Schmidt criticized for false drilling claims

Ohio Republican said Cuba sold drilling rights to China

WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. Jean Schmidt is being criticized for repeating false information about Chinese oil drilling in a speech on the House floor.

In the June 5 speech, Schmidt said there is "drilling activity off of our country's coast," but not by U.S. companies, which are barred from drilling there.

"Instead, the Chinese are drilling off the coast of Florida with their new energy partner, Cuba," Schmidt (R-District 2) said in a speech now forever preserved in the Congressional Record.

...

"Jean Schmidt needs to come clean just as Dick Cheney was forced to do on this and admit that she lied and distorted the facts for selfish political advantage at a time when her constituents are struggling to pay skyrocketing gas prices," Ryan Rudominer of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee said.

...

Schmidt campaign spokesman Bruce Pfaff said he hasn't talked to Schmidt or her office staff yet about the statement.

"This just came up," he said. "We will have a discussion. To us, the real discussion needs to be about which country Cuba is selling the rights to oil to and that communist governments understand the laws of supply and demand better than congressional Democrats."

1. Mean Jean has a problem with truth telling. She's always in hot water
because of her constant lies. Why is she still in office?

she hears a good lie and compulsively repeats it. Next she'll claim she was the person to expose this atrocity.

14. Actually, it was a legit pic...

a local blogger who loves to create controversy thought he saw a suspicious shadow placement and blew that up into a full-fledged, though mistaken, anti-Schmidt rant. Turns out he was wrong. She is a skinny little runt (mirroring her brain) and actually is the fastest woman Rep in her age class. She better be fast; there'll be a lot of us chasing her out of OH-2!

10. About OH-2
I've had an R say to me "We want to keep Schmidt in DC because up there she won't do as much damage locally, like when she was in the Ohio House." Thought that indicates the amount of disgust around here about the Schmitiot.

Dr. Vic Wulsin has an excellent chance to take this seat. If you want to know more about Vic visit <http://www.actblue.com/entity/fundraisers/17969> and She had an expensive primary battle with a seeming DINO, so her funds planned for the General this autumn took a substantial hit.

And to respond to comment #2 (liberalhistorian) - yes, there are pockets of deep red... genetic aberration in their DNA...in Clermont, Warren and Butler, the so-called "ring counties" surrounding Cincinnati. I believe the tide will turn D this fall, especially with OH's new SoS Jennifer Brunner doing her best to assure honest, accurate elections.
BTW, Cincinnati itself suffers from the suburbs' reputation; in 2004 the city went Kerry-Edwards by 2:1. We cut the R margin from 11% in 2000 to 5.5% in 2004.

And not to counter-comment on SD's politics, but I wonder why the Governor et al are still R's? Although Rapid City is in a wonderful natural area (Wind Cave, Badlands, Black Hills, even Sturgis) I'll take OH's trends anytime.
