Poll: Obama leading in swing states Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida
Source: CNN

June 18, 2008
From CNN Political Producer Alexander Marquardt

(CNN) – Barack Obama is leading John McCain in the crucial swing states of Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida, according to a new survey.

Obama lost the Democratic primary in Pennsylvania by 9 points — but a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday shows him leading McCain by 12 points, 52-40. In Ohio — a state Obama lost to Hillary Clinton by 10 points in March — he’s leading McCain 48-42. And in Florida, where he did not campaign this primary season and lost an unsanctioned Democratic contest, he leads McCain 47-43.

The Ohio and Florida results are reversals from Quinnipiac polls published a month ago, when Clinton was still in the race, and McCain led Obama in hypothetical match-ups.

In the waning days of her campaign, Hillary Clinton argued to voters and superdelegates that she should be the nominee because she was the stronger candidate to beat McCain in these swing states. Democrats in all three swing states say they’d like to see her on the ballot this fall, but independent voters give the idea a thumbs down by margins of 9-16 percent....

3. I knew it...
"Democrats in all three swing states say they’d like to see her on the ballot this fall, but independent voters give the idea a thumbs down by margins of 9-16 percent...."

I think we lose independents with Hillary on the ticket. I think she can be a huge asset on the campaign trail for him, I just don't think she adds anything by being on the ticket.

21. This is the argument that many of us are trying to make but naysayers
continue to push for Hillary as VP even though she most assuredly brings with her high unfavorables. It makes no sense to me how they can make the case for her when she would actually depress the ticket simply because the Repugs/Indies hate her. Whether their characterization of her is fair or not, it is what it is and have her on the ticket would be a losing battle.

4. This is fucking HUGE!!!!! I know it's early in the campaign yet.....
.........But barring any giant fuckups by Obama, it's gonna be a blowout in November with huge pickups in the house and MAYBE as many as 10 in the Senate.

17. Thank you. I agree. If we get sloppy in our decorum, it makes DU less inviting.
I use the occasional f-bomb, but in the end of the day I want to hang out in a classy place.

I prefer to hoard my obscenities so that they have more impact when I use them.

People who say "this is just the way I express myself" are missing the point. There's a difference between sipping a nice beer and knocking back a round of Long Island Ice Teas.

It's not my usual way of expressing myself, either on or off the net, but I'm afraid it goes with the territory. Profanity is used so much, in fact, that I think sometimes its effectiveness is diluted. Olbermann, for example, can't use certain words on TV, and the result was that when he told Bush to shut up at the end of a Special Comment, even the clear idea of the word he wanted to use made the statement very powerful, and quoted far and wide.

On edit: And if you set yourself the goal of cleaning up the language around here, you'll have yourself a new full-time job!

The only states that he might not win in are Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Missouri, Kentucky and a few other ass backward "dixie states".

We are a nation of morons, but the high concentration or bigoted red necks in those states and a few more will never vote for a man of color....no matter what the alternative might be. Could be the devil himself running against a man of color, and they'd never vote for the man of color. Idiots.

Ass backward morons.

34. Missouri is a true swing state
It is anchored on the East and West by St. Louis and KC, boasts liberal Columbia in its center, has indie/Repub suburbs and a bible belt.

Comparisons to Alabama and Mississippi are way off target.

20. Thanks. A lot of people aren't really paying attention to the Fox smear machine yet
Once Fox and its RNC spin off operations start spewing Baracknophobia attacks (and when CNN & MSNBC inevitably start mimicking them in pursuit of the wrong ratings) we'll see how those numbers hold up. These are still "get rid of the Bushes" numbers.

We must keep the pressure on McCain.

I have a feeling that it will eb an impending slaughter or John McCain by Obama then come the first tuesday in November the numbers will be so close the supreme court may have to weigh in. Call me cynical I just dont buy these polls, Obama is probably in the lead, but there are so many dumb ass psychos out there that think he is a terrorist. A Manchurian Candidate if you will, which is stupid if anyone is the manchurian candidate it would be McCain, look at the original movie, it is mCcain.

Sure it does. Several articles last year mentioned that PA is going solid, solid blue. California-style permanent blue. It's no longer going to be a swing state after another cycle.

You can have lots of people who want to vote for Obama but they can't if they are disenfranchised (which many are and don't even know it yet) or their vote magically gets changed by Diebold.

44. I have to tell you....
We live in Lancaster County, PA. Over the course of the past two weeks, my husband had surgery, and we traveled through a couple upscale neighborhoods to and from the hospital and doctor's office. Where one would expect to see McCain Supporters' signs, all we saw were Obama signs in their yards. It was awesome to see in one of the reddest counties of the state. We also spoke with nurses and others who were former * supporters, and they are very concerned for our country. Hope is out there, now I just have to find mine, after being so disillusioned by our useless, do nothing congress critters.
