Obama Raises $22 Million in May, His Weakest Month This Year
Source: Wall Street Journal

WASHINGTON -- Democrat Barack Obama has reported raising $22 million in May for his presidential campaign, his weakest fundraising month this year. He ended the month with $43 million cash on hand, according to his campaign.

Mr. Obama has been the fundraising leader in the presidential contest, but his May totals nearly match Republican rival John McCain's fundraising for the month.

Overall, Mr. Obama has raised more than $287 million during the past 17 months. Mr. McCain has raised a total of $115 million.

Mr. Obama's campaign reported that, of his total cash on hand, nearly $10 million was exclusively for the general election.

3. Does Karl Rove run the Wall Street Journal?
Now that Murchoch has begun his purge of Journal editors--I'm curious to know why they mention Obama's worst month but fail to mention that this was McBushes' best month and that his worst month total was around $3 million. "Propaganda--what fuels the MSM."

4. After his meetings with Clinton donors next week it'll pick up
They may have maxed their donations to her, but they're free to respond with the same money to him.

5. so what?
HAHAHA... This is funny. Of course he raised less, the battle is essentially over. Obama could probably beat McSame with just the pocket change he carries around. The country is ready for a change, and it ain't gonna be a repub, no way, no how!

6. Small time donors have given about all they can
The cost of just plain living is too damn high now to be giving money to a campaign. Now is the time the Big boys will loosen their belts and I am afraid that spells good news for McCain...I for one will not donate one thin dime for politics as they currently are and Obama has not really showed me how he will make things any different. What has he had to say about FISA or holding criminals accountable? Nothing..that's what..

7. Darn right. The whole "army of small donors he can return to again and again" just ain't so.
I've heard that story a million times on the news, but frankly, I'm doubtful. I think people gave early because the primary process was so prominent, but that doesn't mean they have any more money to give, and I think with gas prices so high, people feel they have less than ever.

Obama's refusal to take public financing might be a big ol' disaster for him in the end.

10. Nope. I just think it was the wrong choice for him to give up public financing.
The biggest reason I think so is that it erodes his message of being for a different kind of politics. I think between that, and turning his back on Rev. Wright after saying that he could no more do that than turn his back on the black community, it makes him look as if he's more interested in doing whatever's expedient than standing for principle. I don't expect him to be Kucinich (my first choice) but I do expect clarity and consistency.

And, as I said before, I don't think the vast base of small donors is really there. I think people donated early, and Obama may be surprised at how hard he has to work to continue to drum up enough money to replace that $80 mil he turned down.

9. Well, we're just one family, but
we're going to be giving more to Obama in dribs and drabs -- $20 here, $15 there ... We donated for the primary (after Edwards dropped out) and we will donate for the general.

11. "Obama: NAFTA not so bad after all." "Obama Backs Fisa Compromise"
Edited on Sat Jun-21-08 01:31 PM by Zorra
In LBN today.

A lot of Dem pols take their small donor progressive base for granted. Unlike conservative Dems and Independents that vote republican half the time or more, we progressives always vote Dem, so many Dem pols figure they don't have to worry about what we want. Our loyalty does not get rewarded.

Instead, they pander to moderate conservative traitors for votes - like, FISA bill good! NAFTA good!

And I'm sick of it. Democrats need to be Democrats, and shitting on the Constitution and telling us that a treaty that caused the loss of hundreds of thousands if not millions of American jobs ain't so bad is bullshit.

So yeah, I'll still vote for any Dem for president...but I'll send my cash to progressive members of Congress.

Let the people that think FISA and NAFTA are so wonderful finance elected representatives that support these POS programs.
