Audit: Justice Department Weeded Out Dems
Source: CBS/AP

(CBS/ AP) A new audit concludes that rookie attorneys with Republican roots got interviewed for plum Justice Department jobs while their liberal-leaning counterparts got passed over.

The Justice Department's Inspector General and Office of Professional Responsibility released the audit Tuesday, revealing that a screening program installed in 2002 weeded out job applicants who had liberal or Democratic ties. Improper use of the screening program peaked in 2006, when politics and ideology disqualified what the audit called a significant number of newly graduated lawyers and summer interns seeking jobs.

The long-awaited report confirms widespread criticism last year that the once fiercely independent Justice Department was victim to political meddling by the Bush administration. The scandal led to the resignation last September of former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

"Many qualified candidates were deselected by the screening committee because of their perceived political or ideological affiliations" in 2006, the audit concludes.

1. This about pegs my "NO SHIT!!!!" meter..
But I guess it is gratifying that the M$M even acknowledges that it happened. Note past tense.

Now that it is too late to stop the takeover, they report on it.

My response is “so the hell what?” ... win elections, and get your guys into those jobs. Lose elections and nothing happens.

"Many qualified candidates were deselected by the screening committee because of their perceived political or ideological affiliations"
Well then, the screening processed worked and the unqualified liberal pansies didn't make the cut! The system worked!

Did the same thing happen in the Clinton administration? Except there the Dems. got preference?

Are these political appointees in any way? Were any laws broken here? Or is this a story out there just to “stir the pot”?

11. Is there a way to Lexis/Nexis how many days MSRNC spent on
Travelgate? Then we can compare that to how much time they spend on this corruption of the administration of the law of the land

They systematically weeded out everyone who was not a hardcore neo-con, turned the justice system into a spoils system, destroyed the justice department's credibility and perverted justice for years to come. Ashcroft, Gonzales, Bush and Cheney should be brought up on charges.

broke a long time ago. Maybe sometime after Scooter was pardoned. No, all the posts are filled with douches from Bob Jones University because they are believers. No posts have been filled with anybody who questions authority or can think outside the box. I hope Barrack will purge the government of these stupid parasites, when he gets in.

18. Report Assails Political Hiring in Justice Dept.
Source: NYTimes

WASHINGTON — Justice Department officials illegally used “political or ideological” factors in elite recruiting programs in recent years, tapping law school graduates with Federalist Society membership or other conservative credentials over more qualified candidates with liberal-sounding résumés, an internal report found Tuesday.

The report, prepared by the Justice Department’s own inspector general and its ethics office, portrays a clumsy effort by senior Justice Department screeners to weed out candidates for career positions whom they considered “leftists,” using Internet search engines to look for incriminating information or evidence of possible liberal bias.

24. Not just Justice Department...
I would bet that every Fed Agency is packed with Bushistas. Call the Bush admin "the gift that keeps on giving!" No telling how many laws and investigations are going to be broken and covered-up in the years to come. These "repuke moles" will foul up the workings of Government to lay groundwork for Repuke resurgence. If I was Obama I'd have party loyalists review key positions for illegal hirees. Clues might be degrees from any evangelical college or university, membership in federalist society. "youthful" folk occupying positions above their experience level. (ie: Young College Grad who was hired to set up Iraq stock market!), people who have shown too rapid advancement (preferential hiring), "emergency" hirees (ie; hardfills). Obama better have a team ready to go right away, before the moles bury themselves too deep!
