Bush says Zimbabwe election appears to be 'sham'
Source: Reuters

WASHINGTON, June 25 (Reuters) - President George W. Bush on Wednesday called run-off elections to be held in Zimbabwe a sham and accused President Robert Mugabe's government of intimidation.

Friday's presidential elections "appear to be a sham," Bush said at the White House after meeting with members of the U.N. Security Council. "The Mugabe government is intimidating people on the ground in Zimbabwe," he said.

30. Beyond galactic. Omniversal. Or perhaps we should just stay on Earth
for our analogy, say Hitlerian, and be done with it.

But, oh no, mustn't point THAT out! It doesn't sound good and the Bushie PR will have a field day. Musn't point THAT out.

10. "Appear" to be a sham?
Whaddaya mean "appear?" Just because Katherine Harris and Kenneth Blackwell
weren't involved? Just because Mugabe is African doesn't mean he hasn't figured
out how to do this on his own? All he had to do is read how Bush Lite did it, and
adapt the tactics to the local environment, and voilà: instant "Get ovah eet."

15. Yes, it's been quite clear for weeks that Mugabe wants to, and probably will,
overturn the popular vote by force and intimidation. Crystal clear, in fact. Totally fucking obvious, to use the technical term.

Bizarre, though, that something * said has some relation to truthiness . . . . Probably he was misquoted, I think.

16. Oh, does he mean a 'sham' like our own Presidential election in 2000?
or what?

And, I guess Bush would know something about political intimidation, since his minions wrote a couple a new chapters to that book over the last 8 years.

21. This reminds me of the Ukranian election in 2004
that was called a sham right after the shame of an election we had here. The news media was "shocked!! shocked, I tell ya!!" that the Ukranians could have such a deficit in their democracy. Meanwhile, back at the ranch...

32. You simply cannot compare
What's happening in Zimbabwe to the elections in the U.S. It's far, far worse over there. The real shame is that nobody wants to do anything about it. This has nothing whatsoever to do with the lack of any oil in Zimbabwe. Absolutely not. Oh no.
