Pitt, Jolie give $1 mln to kids impacted by Iraq war
Source: Reuters

LOS ANGELES, June 25 (Reuters) - Actors Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have donated $1 million for educational aid to children impacted by the Iraq war in that country and in the United States, a charitable organization said on Wednesday.

The Jolie-Pitt Foundation has given $500,000 to three groups in the war-torn country which will provide aid for some 5,700 children, said the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, which is co-chaired by Jolie.

Money will pay for basic necessities, including books and supplies to help send Iraqi children to school. Aid will also go to refugee kids, and to school rehabilitation programs.

The foundation also gave $500,000 to help children in the United States who have a military parent killed in Iraq, or who are separated from a parent stationed in the country.

2. Amazing how little $1 million will do
In the face of the billions Bushco is paying to kill them.

I'm glad they are doing something to try and heal the damage.

7. Yup!
Think she's actually said that one of the reasons she keeps doing movies is that she can make large sums of money to give away.

I like her. :)

8. That's the essence of the problem
Bushco has TRILLIONS to throw away in pursuit of destroying the world. Even if all of us give all of our disposable income, we're still trailing far behind their ability to kill people.

4. Great But,
Most people I know don't feel the need to issue a press release every time we make a contribution.

Either way, it is nice to see them doing good things with their money.

5. It's meant to spark interest in the foundation
as a means to get outside donations.

I'm not sure if that was their intent though :)

6. It's actually a very good thing that they do
...anytime they can use their celebrity to attempt to set and example or encourage other people with means to follow their lead, its a good thing. I don't care about guessing whether they are motivated by publicity or something else, because the net result is positive. Basically it says - we are two of the most successful stars in hollywood, and being socially responsible and generous hasn't hurt our star power in any way. That's a good message to other successful hollywood stars.

13. Don't worry. If they start calling attention to the consequences in Iraq...
they will easily get the media to start ignoring them.

9. I wouldn't give a damn about 95% of Hollywood, self-important, self-agrandizing whores....
Now Ms. Jolie and Mr. Pitt are something else all together. Fine actors and decent human beings. They do so much good. Bless their hearts.

10. Commendable
but as far as altruism goes I'm much more impressed with the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation simply because Gates attained his wealth via hard work and intelligence (and a shark like business acumen)and coupled with Warren Buffet's billions they stand to really change alot of things for the better.

12. I think that you might be surprised at how intelligent and hard working many actors are
Some of them are booboo heads but so are many successful business people. Believe me, I've had to sell things to some of the dumbest people in existence with CEO behind their names.

I think it's great that they draw attention to this. Furthermore I'm most impressed by people who have less and give a higher percentage. Did Bill Gates give 30% of his income to charity? I don't think he did.

11. These two Americans are great reflections of our country, and
we could surely use some help in that regard. I'm grateful to them both.
