(DNC) Delegate who said she'd vote for McCain in fight

MILWAUKEE (AP) — A Democratic National Convention delegate pledged to Hillary Rodham Clinton says she hopes to fight off an attempt by Wisconsin Democrats to take away her credentials because of her past statement that she would vote for John McCain if Clinton wasn't the nominee.

"Keeping national delegate status is very important to me," Debra Bartoshevich said Thursday. "I believe that Hillary is the better candidate of all of them."

She declined to comment on her previous comment, quoted in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, that she would vote for the Republican McCain in November if the Democratic Party nominated Barack Obama for president.

Wisconsin Democratic party chairman Joe Wineke said Friday he's confident Bartoshevich won't be at the national convention. Wineke said it's clear Bartoshevich violated party rules by failing to honor a pledge of intent to vote for the party's presidential ticket in the fall.

1. She Has No Right To Those Credentials, Sir
And had she a trace of honorable character, would have forfeited them voluntary once she stated she would vote for the opposition's candidate.

9. Why coin a new word when "quisling" will do just fine?
From the Wikipedia entry for Quisling:

Quisling, after Norwegian politician Vidkun Quisling, who assisted Nazi Germany to conquer his own country, is a term used to describe traitors and collaborationists. It was most commonly used for fascist political parties and military and paramilitary forces in occupied Allied countries which collaborated with Axis occupiers in World War II, as well as for their members and other collaborators.

6. She can vote for whoever she wants at the convention but if she plans to vote for McCain in Nov
if Hillary isn't the nominee then she shouldn't be a delegate to the convention.

7. You can't go from Clinton to McCain and be considerd a rational person
it's Bizarre.

Maybe a cult member, perhaps brain-dead, and certainly not a Democrat, but definitely not rational.

11. If keeping her "status" is important to her
Then she should live up to the responsibilities that come with being a delegate. What a pretty pass our nation has come to when such an elementary equation mystifies so many.

12. If she were not a good Democrat she would never have received delegate status
I think she was just shooting off her mouth and making hollow threats because she was angry her candidate didn't win. I doubt very much she would ever really vote for a Republican. She was just hurt and upset..I say give her the benefit of the doubt and ask her if she still feels the same way or not. If she stills says the same thing then strip her of her status

statement and pointedly declined to do so. If she wasn't intending to vote for McCain, she would be aggressively disavowing the statement - since that endorsement is what is threatening her delegate status. Since she hasn't disavowed her McCain endorsement in all the time since this controversy errupted, she's past the point of being trusted - the last thing we need is a Democratic National Convention delegate making the rounds on Fox News and right wing radio endorsing McCain.

If she's intentionally shitting all over the party, why should she be rewarded for it?

17. I think you're right she was personally way over-invested in
a Clinton win ans was probably "heart-broken" by the loss. I think she may just need some time to grieve.

20. Thats awful hard to know

I was there when we nominated our delegates. All you had to go on was what people had said about themselves, and what research people had done before they arrived(often not that much other than on one or two friends who happened to be running). Theoretically we could have elected a bunch of hardcore bushies and we wouldn't know it unless and until they revealed themselves as such.

On edit: once elected you take on responsibilities. Your personal investment in the result should be subordinate to the responsibility you have voluntarily taken on yourself. If you do not live up to those commitments you make of your own free will, then losing the privileges that came with the commitment is a predictable result.
