U.S. C-130 makes emergency landing in Baghdad field
Source: Reuters

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A U.S. Air Force C-130 transport plane with 38 people aboard made an emergency landing in a barren field northeast of Baghdad's international airport on Friday, the Air Force said.

There were no significant injuries, the Air Force said, adding all six crew and 32 passengers had been accounted for.

The plane made the emergency landing because of suspected mechanical problems, an Air Force spokeswoman said.

There was no indication of any hostile fire, the Air Force said in a separate statement.

1. Like we'd even hear about it if it were really "suspected mechanical problems."
They always say mechanical failure, and eventually admit that the mechanical failure was caused by bullets or rockets striking crucial mechanical devices. "A missile blew off the wing. It was mechanical failure."

2. If there is ONE plane to be on if hit by something, it's the Herky
Love that airplane! And you're correct, if it was mechanical, we'd never hear about it. I have a friend who still flys C-130's and he's done at least 4 6-month tours, gotta check to see what squadron this bird was from...

21 unarrested full stops and 21 unassisted takeoffs. Wow!

10. They are pretty hard to damage,
at least to the extent they are not able to fly.
Maybe had some VIP's aboard?

3. Speaking of C-130s. Has anyone near an Air Force airfield noticed a lot of C-130s coming in and out?
We've noticed tons of them going in and out of Dobbins Air Force Base near Atlanta.

What the Hell is going on?

9. C-130s, not so much. Ask me about C-17s, though...
I live right next to Fort Bragg and they've flown C-17s in and out of here every day since the war started. It doesn't seem to have gotten any heavier lately.
