July 08, 2008 01:32 IST

The application for visas to the United States is likely to increase by about 40-50 per cent in the coming five years, said Henry V Jardine, Consul General of the United States at the Bengal National Chamber Of Commerce and Industries in Kolkata.

There has been a growth of about 20 per cent in visa application during 2006-2008.

The number of visa applications increased from 450,000 to around 700,000 during the past two years.

1. Hmm. I wonder if anyone is keeping track of folks like us who have
applied for permanent resident visas in countries outside the U.S. (We have ours in Panama).

6. These would likely be L1 visas, not H-1B
There is no quota on the number of L1 visas.

7. There is no H1-B problem
There is a visa fraud problem, prosecute visa fraud and leave the stamps out of it.
