(Michael) Vick files for bankruptcy protection
Source: Sports Illustrated

Imprisoned quarterback Michael Vick filed for bankruptcy protection while serving time for federal dogfighting charges, saying he owes between $10 million and $50 million to creditors.

Vick filed Chapter 11 papers in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Newport News on Monday. The seven largest creditors listed in the court papers are owed a total of about $12.8 million.

Vick is serving a 23-month prison sentence at the U.S. Penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kan., after pleading guilty last year to bankrolling a dogfighting ring. He was subsequently suspended indefinitely without pay and lost all his major sponsors, including Nike. He also faces state charges related to dogfighting.

The suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback "will seek to rebuild his life and career" upon his release, according to the filings.

But I have the feeling he won't be surviving on beans and Ramen Noodles when he gets out of prison. Still couldn't happen to a more deserving fellow.

7. the dogs are doing better
There was a front-page article in the Wash. Post the other day about the abused dogs. Out of 50 animals, 48 have been placed in good homes (the other 2 had to be put down because they were sick). A very happy ending to this story all around, unless you happen to be a Vick creditor.

It's amazing -- Vick is all of what, 26 years old and he's run up $50 million in debt?

8. The corporate NFL will rehabilitate Vick
Edited on Tue Jul-08-08 08:10 PM by Gman
they'll do pregame interviews with a hazy look detailing how Vick was so down, and how he's coming back. There will be soft music in the background while the interviewer does an Oprah-like interview... Vick will hook up and do volunteer work for the ASPCA and they'll show him frolicking with his chocolate labs (everybody has one of those and can identify which is important to marketing Vick). Vick will tearfully recall his past transgressions and thank God and Jesus Christ he was saved from such a terrible life.

The NFL can't turn down a good arm. If the Cowboys kept that asshole wide receiver with the huge diamond in his ear and the long fur coat that couldn't catch a ball if his life, much less his team depended on it and a nose candy problem (what the hell's his name?), dogfighting's nothing. There ain't nobody they can't rehabilitate, especially if he's got a rocket launcher for an arm and the accuracy of a laser guided missile.

Hide and watch.

14. I believe Vick
Committed a heinous crime and he is being justly punished.

Once he serves his punishment, I think the NFL should judge him on his playing ability and offer him a career if he has still got the talent.

Note that Vick's crimes didn';t directly bear on football. He wasn't betting on football, or throwing games for money or anything.

Heck, assume for the sake of argument he committed murder and served 15 years. Assuming he could still play at that age, I don't see banning him from football.

I'm a pretty law and order guy, but I believe in punishment, THEN a second chance.

17. Michael Irvin
and I daresay he has done more charitable deeds in his life than anyone on this board. He has a radio program on ESPN 103.3 and is highly sought as a motivational speaker in the Dallas area. Rehabilitated, indeed.

His football career is finished. How sad - came from nothing and because he was stupid, back to worse than nothing.

It's all about the gate and winning. Has nothing to do with the integrity of the game. Can Vick help a team win..........yes.

I'm a self confessed football junkie. I would root for Son of Sam if he could get 8 sacks a year.

I'm blessed with having the Detroit Lions as my home team.

27. General public doesn't matter
Only those who pay to watch the game.

Not to sound snarky, but animal loving, non football fans are an outside group that will have NO bearing on Vick's future. If a GM thinks he will help his football team, Vick will play in the NFL again.

BTW, I have two Yorkies that I would kill for.:)

20. I realize this isn't the proper place....
But I must respond.

Never having to work another day in your life is not a blessing. Its a curse. One needs a purpose in life. A reason for being. Work of one sort or another provides us with a purpose and a reason for existence.

So, if you look at it this way, his kids are better off. Assuming he has any. Which I don't believe he does.
