Kucinich to bring single article of impeachment for misleading US into war
Source: Raw Story -- Nick Juliano

Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) is sticking to his drive to impeach President Bush.

Few in the House of Representatives have any intention of doing anything with the last 35 articles of impeachment Kucinich set before them last month, so the former presidential candidate appears to be lightening the load. Kucinich sent a letter to colleagues Tuesday asking them to support a single article of impeachment, to be introduced Thursday, which accuses President Bush of leading the country to war based on lies.

"There can be no greater offense of a Commander in Chief than to misrepresent a cause of war and to send our brave men and women into harm's way based on those misrepresentations," Kucinich wrote in the "Dear Colleague" letter.

"There has been a breach of faith between the Commander in Chief and the troops. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 or with Al Qaeda's role in 9/11. Iraq had neither the intention nor the capability of attacking the United States," he continued. "Iraq did not have weapons of Mass of Destruction. Yet George W. Bush took our troops to war under all of these false assumptions. Given the profound and irreversible consequences to our troops, if his decision was the result of a mistake, he must be impeached. Since his decision was based on lies, impeachment as a remedy falls short, but represents at least some effort on our part to demonstrate our concern about the sacrifices our troops have made."

Last month, Kucinich presented 35 articles of impeachment. Those have since been referred to the Judiciary Committee, where they are expected to die. Kucinich threatened to double the number of impeachment articles if the Judiciary Committee did not act...

Which I still think is the basis for his unchecked power. That secret document that describes their reasoning is still secret.

34. Congress wasn't emasculated by the Executive Branch.
Congress emasculated itself. The administration could never have taken anything from Congress—Congress voluntarily handed over everything. All because they were afraid someone would call them names. And hundreds of thousands of people are dead because of it.

Kucinich, Wexler and Waxman are the only three out of 535 who shouldn't be tarred and feathered. Quite a few should be imprisoned.

I saw the video earlier today. I just cried and asked myself 'why?'
I was saddened that he had "tens of thousands" who signed. Why not more?
And he smiled. He was thankful. He is beautiful.

I also signed Wexler's petition. I freaked out watching the video as he held up the signatures on the floor....now has over 250,000 signatures.

Our country is sleeping....our country is dying...last breath.

26. I like this tactic better
Than another laundry list. It's something people understand, and it's something many know to be true. It also has the virtue of probably being Bush's greatest crime while in office.

A Bush who is busy defending himself against impeachment will be a Bush too busy to do more damage. I'm sorry, but this needs to be done. Democrats in Congress who fear that this sort of thing will hurt our electoral chances in november are not simply craven, which is bad enough, they're stupid, which is worse. Detailing the crimes, day after day, was what finally turned the tide with regard to the public's esteem of Reagan. The greatest Congressional electoral success in my lifetime came after Watergate.

A House leadership that is capable of permitting the destruction of the Constitution deserves nothing but contempt. If they can do this, then they certainly won't balk at sabotaging Obama's presidency. It's time to clean (the) house.

27. Keep at it DK!
I applaud your courage to ring that bell. Even if the House members keep locking your measures away, they cannot ignore the bell---they hear it, and we hear it, and governing in the open is what we're made of here. At least there is a dividing-line produced by it: those who hear it and agree and are frustrated, and those that squirm and ignore it and are ashamed of hearing but not acting. In the end we Americans are accountable for governance sins, both of comission and omission. Good for Dennis and those of us who obviously care...and shame on those who refuse to hear, who refuse to smell what Democracy's cooking.

Now, Rep. Kucinich will once again present his case to the House where it will receive the same cold shoulder from Pelosi and die an ignominious death.

One day in the who-knows-how-distant-future the truth about the complicity of the Democrats in this Congress will be revealed. Probably not in my lifetime, but one can hope.

30. Look in up in your Funk and Wagnals...
The Key part of Dennis statement is - WHAT IS A LIE???. Not having a Funk and Wagnals, here is what Merriam -Webster has to say what a lie is...

1 : to make an untrue statement with intent to deceive
2 : to create a false or misleading impression

I think most of us here at DU - including myself - would agree - that number 2 is true. Number 1 is a harder nut to crack. Intent to deceive - is almost impossible to prove - how many bona-fide mind readers are out there? Perhaps Dennis should modify his statement to include just number 2?

35. DK has the balls Obama lacks (Obama opposes impeachment, FYI)
Dennis may be quixotic, but that is his charm and his value.

He stands for something even as the Democratic Party itself comes increasingly to stand for nothing but watered down Republicanism.

Now, with Obama turning into a hybrid of Hillary and Pelosi, we need Kucinich more than ever.

I wish Dennis would quit the party and run as an independent, taking the mantle from the man he most closely resembles -- Ralph Nader. He'd get a lot further than he does with the party's sorry leaders constantly holding his arms and legs and smothering his head under a pillow.

Yes, I will vote for Obama because I feel there's just too much at stake right now to stand on principle alone and make any other choice, but Kucinich is the only one I truly respect. This country and the Democratic party will be the poorer because he will not be elected President of the United States in November.

I think this might have more impact than the 35, because by having only one article, no one can claim that it is too much/difficult to read, examine, and take a stance on. With the 35, there were ready-made excuses for the weak, not so here.

W lied to take us to war and that is a breach of his oath of office. Pure. Simple.

76. Same here!
Dennis continues to show integrity and courage in the midst of a spineless and dishonest den of iniquity.

70. Too bad other in Congress are spineless individuals who refuse to stand for the truth.
They would rather play it safe and hide behind the skirts of Washington. They make me :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke:

73. there shouldn't be a problem combatting tyranny
thats' why the constitution is there. Use it before it's used as bathroom tissue by G W Bush.

74. No longer a "free country"
The phrase "free country" used to be bandied about a lot - but you don't hear it much anymore. It used to be a common defense to almost anything people were accused of that wasn't actually criminal - "well it's a free country". I miss the old days - before congress was cowed into giving up our freedom.
