NOPD officer punished for wearing the wrong uniform(15 minutes before retirement)

With minutes left in the last shift of his 35-year New Orleans police career, Sgt. Bobby Guidry received a call from a supervisor telling him he had been suspended for wearing the wrong uniform shirt, the veteran officer said.

The Police Department confirmed the censure Tuesday, though it quibbled with the term "suspended." Rather, Guidry is "under investigation for wearing the wrong uniform," said Police Department spokesman Bob Young.

Instead of the standard-issue all-black uniform, Guidry, a veteran officer in the city's Uptown 2nd District, chose the powder-blue uniform shirt that he wore to work for more than three decades.

He viewed it as a simple statement, not an affront to rules or department leadership.

"Eighteen people died in the line of duty in that powder-blue shirt while I was with the department," Guidry said. "I went to each of those funerals. I wore that shirt on a Saturday, on my last day, out of respect for them."

I nominate these supervisors for a worst person honor. Idiots! Why don't you clean up the corruption in your department? You're not known as an exemplary police agency!

10. I'm with you on this one...
I wouldn't be surprised that some sort of disciplinary review board finds that his "insubordination is grounds for termination."

9. My Fellow Brothers, and Sisters, this is why...
I believe the Spirit of the Law, and not the Letter of the Law is the most important. Truly this fellow should not have been reprimanded this harshly: He is considered Retired, but under Investigation, and a result of that is that he may not serve as a Reserve Officer. Which is stupid, because Men like him are a benefit to serve as a Reserve Officer during times of Crisis. And, isn't it true that New Orleans is suffering a shortage of Law Officers? We live in a Stupid Fascist Country. Justice Above the Rules. Liberty and Justice for All. No one is Perfect. End the Tyranny of the Rich over all the rest of us. Cops have a difficult job. As long as they are not abusing their power, they should be treated with huge respect.

The world would be Complete Hell without some sort of Standing Militia, but I would like to see and end to the Police Force, and have a Citizens Police Force. We would work in groups of 3's. We could receive Police Training, and part of being a good citizen, is serving a bit of time as a Police Person. We need to return the Government to the People. There needs to be an end of the Police State.

We can no longer afford doing things the way they used to be done. We have the ability to perform Labor, but we are poorer, because of the inflation. We can trade our Labor with One another. We have the means to our own economic salvation by working, through Trade (Barter), with more and more people. We are all in this together.

14. How is this fun?
Jerking someone around is not "fun."
Also keep in mind that taxpayers money is being wasted to discipline this man and to investigate the incident. What a complete waste.

33. Do you live here?
It's no worse than any other city in the nation. The things that go in places like New York and Chicago are just as bad, but somehow, we in Louisiana have to endure this "OMG New Orleans is corrupt" because a bunch of dumb Yankees read books and think the state is corrupt and the people ride alligators.

24. What the fuck is it with Police and black uniforms these days...
Where I live now, Corpus Christi, they just went to black uniforms, and I've heard of a few other cities doing the same.

All these cops need now are some jack boots and Sam Browne belts, and then they will look like they are ready to invade Poland.

29. Same thing in Canada

Several years ago the Toronto police changed from a light blue shirt to black shirts (or might be a very dark blue). IIRC, the police chief at the time stated it was to help give the police a more intimidating look to deter the bad guys.

32. Its part of a federal standardization program
Easier to get state/fed. money for black or dark blue uniforms.

also the black and white cars are much cheaper for departments to buy as opposed to the standard white ones they put the decals on.
Its a federal intiative program of sorts.

31. More at People Get Ready
this guy is the source of the "Vitties" diaper box pic found whenever I encounter a Diaper Dave thread, so you know he's good...

http://peoplegetready.jockamofeenanay.com/?p=2163

While more serious acts committed by members of the NOPD that erode public trust go uninvestigated, a man who wears a traditional NOPD uniform on the last of his 35 years with the NOPD isn't just asked to change his shirt, but is summarily reprimanded with loss of future benefits.

NOPD superintendent Warren Riley's unrelenting punishment of NOPD veteran Robert Guidry reeks of a deeper vendetta. Others have accused Riley of holding grudges for a long time.

And so our suspicions are confirmed: Guidry is (or may be) getting screwed out of his pension, and it's all because Warren Riley, the Heckuvajob Brownie of police chiefs, held a grudge. :eyes:

Warren Riley. Today's Worst. Person. In The World!!

but see, if NOLA actually functioned, everyone would want to live there, causing the ground to sink even further...

do, do their job and stay, their pensions will be cut if they sneeze.

I hope the other officers support this guy, which in turn reflects how they will be treated.
