This is not that significant. Many people get nominated. It's just sad, that's all.

Bush and Blair nominated for Nobel peace prize
By Alister Doyle

OSLO (Reuters) - President George W. Bush and Prime Minister Tony Blair are among nominees for the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize before a Sunday deadline for nominations despite failure to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

"Nominations are pouring in," said Geir Lundestad, director of the Norwegian Nobel Institute. He said he gets letters and up to 1,500 e-mails a day from people either supporting or denouncing candidates.

Among nominees are the European Union to mark its expansion to include former East bloc states. Pope John Paul, the Salvation Army, former Czech President Vaclav Havel, Chinese dissidents are also among nominees.

"Bush and Blair definitely still deserve it," said Jan Simonsen, a right-wing independent member of Norway's parliament who nominated the two for the 2004 prize shortly after the U.S.-led war toppled Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein in April.

"Even though they haven't found those weapons they got rid of a dictator and made the world more safe," he told Reuters on Friday, sticking by the choice. "They got rid of a madman."

4. The real question is
how many people do you have to blow up to win this farce of an award?
Yasser Arafat comes to mind...

12. I can understand Kissenger being nominated better than Bush
Not that I would support either one being nominated. Kissenger may have been part of atrocities in southeast Asia, but he did spend a lot of time and energy trying to negotiate peace in Israel. He laid the groundwork for what Carter completed in the Camp David Accords.

Perhaps it has been co-opted along with any other "Institution" that chooses to endure rather than evolve.
Sounds vaguely like the Homeland, eh folks?

25. I recall that bush actually was nominated by some such loon last year.
True. Didn't go very far. In fact, when they gave out the award, they used the wording of the announcement to take a whack at bush.

Do write and protest even the consideration of those criminals, Bush and/or Blair.

State why Bush or Blair should NOT be even considered for the prize...there are so many reasons: Thouands dead, global destabilzation both politically and economically, the push to create more nuclear arms in the US, the lies told to the world to justify invading a sovereign nation...and am sure there are many more.

And when you do write, maybe consider and name who you think should receive the prize.

Here's all the contact information for the committee:

Bush and Blair continueusly being accused of War criminal.

Quote, "Blair faces new 'war crimes' accusation
By Severin Carrell
18 January 2004

An eminent panel of legal experts is to accuse Tony Blair of committing war crimes in Iraq in a formal complaint to the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
The panel, which includes law professors from universities in Britain, Ireland, France and Canada, will claim on Tuesday there is compelling evidence that the Prime Minister broke international law and UN treaties by invading Iraq last year.
