Israel 'ready to act' over Iran
Source: BBC

Israel's defence minister has warned of his country's readiness to act against Iran if it feels threatened.

Ehud Barak, speaking in Tel Aviv, said Israel had "proved in the past that it won't hesitate to act when its vital security interests are at stake".

He spoke as Iran's testing of missiles that could reach Israel stoked tensions between the two, and with the US.

But Mr Barak added that diplomatic solutions should be pursued before other options were taken up.

They're going to do it. So much of this sounds just like the summer of 2002, leading up to the Iraq invasion in 2003.

Will they again "roll out a new product" in September like in September 2002? It worked then.

1. This could spell Trouble with a capital T.
An American-sanctioned and backed Israeli strike on Iran followed by an incident here in the States could easily suspend or cancel the '08 General Elections.

And we just sit back and nod.

11. Things are even weirder than in 2004. It wouldn't surprise me if this was part of their motivation.
Edited on Thu Jul-10-08 04:46 PM by ryanmuegge
Nothing seems like a conspiracy theory anymore. That is how fucked up things have gotten.

Why the rush to military action (I know the ideology and academic rationale behind the neocon view on international relations, so this is more of a rhetorical question)? The Soviets really HAD nuclear weapons and could have given to terroists. We survived without directly attacking them. I like that Obama points this out once in a while. We also lived with a top marginal income tax rate of 91%. Things can and have been different without the world falling off its axis.

4. Deja vu all over again - Iraq - The Sequel
This is exactly how they started amping up anti-Iraq sentiment in 2002.
Will our spineless congress do anything to stop this madness?

I won't hold my breath.

10. Great spelling, right there. And wonderful attitude. I'm sure all the little kids in Israel
appreciate the fact that you wish for them to die.

Babies. Young kids. And you'd be happy for them to be killed.

Fuck you.

mideast. Whose side do ya think saudi arabia will be on?

I really believe israel is being run by the US and it's own profiteers on this. If Iran is part of it then it's a currupt leader who also has investments that will go up or will benefit personally from the war/oil industry.

The only people who ever drive wars are profiteers. A whole lot of innocent people are going to die quickly so the ultra rich can get richer. All of the people behind this should be hanged for even attempting to start it.

20. They won't attack with nukes.
Their "rehearsal" last month involved fighter jets. Fighter jets don't drop nukes -- unless the pilots are suicidal.

29. It's hard to say who is running who..
I keep thinking back to the Iran/Contra thing when Israel was supplying the weapons being sold to Iran. Then in the beginning of the Iraq War, Ghorbanifar, Ledeen, all the same players were at the table. I just wish I knew who was who. I wonder if we will ever know.

and the Bush junta will have time to really raid the place and get money from congress. They may need this to start in a hurry.

then again they may use it as grounds not to step down and do it right around the elections. Regardless, they were the only ones talking about war with iran for the last 3 years, so I'm very sure they're behind this.

And off we will go to defend them throwing the whole region into hell and totally destroying the flow of oil from the region.

This may be the Armageddon the fundies have all been dreaming about. Only the outcome may not be the fantasy they have carried so long.

it would be a less than good idea for us to attack iran.

but at least there'd be something to watch on tv- the world disintegrating for instance...

"Police have widened an investigation into allegations of corruption against Israeli PM Ehud Olmert to also look at whether he may have committed fraud."

Keep the foreign policy in focus while there is a corruption probe at home?
