In Pennsylvania, McCain Tells a New Version of Heroic P.O.W. Story -- Subbing the Pittsburgh Steeler
Edited on Thu Jul-10-08 10:46 PM by RamboLiberal
Source: ABC News

Yesterday in Pittsburgh, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., professed his love for the Steelers to KDKA-TV.

Asked what first comes to his mind when he thinks of Pittsburgh, McCain chuckled, "the Steelers. I was a mediocre high school athlete but I loved and adored the sports but the Steelers really made a huge impression on me particularly in my early years."

And then McCain told a rather moving story about his time as a P.O.W. "When I was first interrogated and really had to give some information because of the pressures, physical pressures on me, I named the starting lineup, defensive line of the Pittsburgh Steelers as my squadron mates."

"Did you really?" asked the reporter.

"Yes," McCain said.

-----

Here's one reason he likely couldn't do it today -- the Steelers aren't the team whose defensive line McCain named for his Vietnamese tormentors. The Green Bay Packers are. At least according to every previous time McCain has told this story. And the McCain campaign just told ABC News that the senator made a mistake -- it was, indeed, the Packers.

Being a Steeler fan I thought when I heard his story that he was lying. When McCain was a POW the Steelers were dreadful - they weren't at the time the Steel Curtain.

So either McCain was lying outright - hey John people fact check - or he is really mentally addled.

11. What people, all but a few hundred thousand forget about Pittsburgh
Edited on Fri Jul-11-08 05:09 AM by Hubert Flottz
is the thousands of good paying steelworker's jobs that went to the far south under Reagan. John said he'd be proud to dust off Reagan's old veto pen. I wonder which American jobs John plans to WRITE OFF, with that not so ancient pen from hell, that Reagan once wielded.

McCain should have used the standard GOP Gangster's fix all answer, back when the VC were working on him..."I Don't Remember"...It worked for Ronnie, and George and George, and Addington, and Yoo and Gonzo, and Cheney and AND A N D...all the rest who have sworn under oath that they just can't seem to recall.

How would the Gangster's standard "I can't recall" answer work for YOU?

Ociffer, "Sir, did you know that you were doing 85 mph in a school zone?"

You, "Oh, I guess I forgot!"

Ociffer, "Step out of the car please and put your hands on the roof! You have a right to..........

16. Not the first time McCain has told a different version of POW story
The story of POW Mike Christian and the Pledge of Allegiance is a bit suspect. There are two versions out there - one told by McCain and one by another POW, Leo Thorsness. They differ significantly enough that you have to wonder if one, or both, are lying. Unfortunately, Mike Christian died in 1983 so there is no way of knowing. Thorsness, a McCain supporter, who appeared in the anti-Kerry film "Stolen Valor," will probably not out his pal McCain either.

19. I vote "pandering"
But, of course, that's totes understandable and wholly forgiveable when it's a Republican doing it. But when Al Gore jokingly says his mom used to sing him a union song as a lullaby, that's because Gore is a serial liar who would say anything to become president.

See how it works?

22. STOP The Radio Hall of Fame from Honoring Anti-Gay Bigot JAMES DOBSON
Edited on Fri Jul-11-08 10:41 AM by IanDB1

http://www.truthwinsout.org/dobson-petition.php

The Museum of Broadcast Communications has nominated James Dobson, one of America’s most intolerant voices, to its Radio Hall of Fame. The Focus on the Family leader has said that allowing gay people to marry will “destroy the earth.” Focus on the Family hosts the nation’s largest so-called “ex-gay” conference – where they claim to convert homosexuals.

Dobson has also been accused by seven researchers in two years of twisting their work to promote his anti-gay political agenda. Clearly, Dobson lacks the character and integrity to be considered for the Radio Hall of Fame.

The Museum of Broadcast Communications should act responsibly and immediately withdraw Dobson’s name from consideration. Fight back by signing our formal request to have James Dobson removed from consideration:

STOP The Radio Hall of Fame from Honoring Anti-Gay Bigot JAMES DOBSON
http://www.truthwinsout.org/dobson-petition.php

To fight back against this outrageous decision by the Museum of Broadcast Communications, we strongly urge you to also take the following actions:

1. Contact the Museum of Broadcast Communications CEO directly at, brucedumont@museum.tv

2. As an option, vote for nominees other than James Dobson or Laura Schlessinger (the general public may vote, and the other nominees are Bob Costas and Howard Stern). You can vote here:
https://eballot3.votenet.com/nrhof/register/

3. Help Truth Wins Out fight James Dobson and the far-right by making a contribution today:
http://www.truthwinsout.org/donate.html

It is urgent that you ACT NOW. Voting comes to a close on July 15th, and it only takes a moment to be heard, loud and clear.

24. It's hard to keep your lies straight when you are losing your mental abilities.
That doesn't matter though. If he was President, there would probably be people around him to remind him of which country he really wanted to bomb in case he forgets.
