McCain Adviser Attempts to Clarify Viagra vs. Birth Control Comments
Carly Fiorina Argues She Didn't Mean to Suggest a McCain Reversal on Birth Control or Abortion
By JENNIFER PARKER
July 11, 2008

For the second time this week the McCain campaign tried to disentangle itself from embarrassing comments made by surrogates stumping for the Republican presidential candidate.

Earlier this week, Sen. John McCain rejected a statement by his top economics adviser, former Sen. Phil Gramm, who complained that America is "a nation of whiners" and the country is in a "mental recession."

McCain joked Thursday that Gramm, once touted as a possible Treasury secretary in a McCain administration, would make a good ambassador to Belarus.

Today the campaign tried to recover from a comment by Carly Fiorina, McCain's most visible woman surrogate and a possible vice presidential pick.

Fiorina, the former chief of Hewlett-Packard, left McCain speechless Monday when she seemed to criticize health insurance companies for covering Viagra for men but not covering birth control for women.

19. They don't have to try. The Neocon Election Stealing Machine is vetted and ready to go.
Its still in place. Its still capable of stealing this election.

McCain is certainly making things more interesting.

5. Medicaid, VA and other govt insurance paid for Viagra but not birth control
I believe the govt insurance plans and federal employee insurance now covers birth control but for a number of years there was no coverage for women while the men, even those in prison for felonies could get govt paid Viagra.

She said her only mistake was that she didn't "fire them fast enough".

7. Wasn't she part of corporate espionage?
I thought she was part of the group who hired people to spy on journalist and 'pretext' to illegally obtain their phone records to determine if any insiders were speaking to the media?

12. I'm a little concerned the public is starting to get used to "gaffes"
...I don't want a "Oh, that wacky McCain campaign" meme running around in November.

OT: The message when you cover boners and not family planning is quite clear.

16. Did you read the whole article?
She tried to completely obscure the issue, which was: Why do health insurance companies pay for Vaigra but not birth control? McCain has voted twice against forcing these companies to pay for birth control.

17. I did. Hence "some".
She's just tucking her tail between her legs and running home after the outrage from the wingnuts. And I realize her asshat past, I think she just accidentally broke from the party line. Ooops.
