Defendant in post office dispute charged with threatening commissioners
Friday, July 11, 2008
By ERICA MITRANO

A dispute over a dilapidated lot in Sunderland, the site of the old post office, has taken a bizarre turn with the defendant in that case facing charges that he threatened and harassed two county commissioners, allegedly sending one of them pieces of a dismembered vulture in the mail.

Curtis Portland Litten, 45, of Dunkirk was charged in May with stalking Commissioner Linda Kelley (R) and repeatedly dumping trash in her yard; in June, charges of threatening a state official, possessing wild birds and mutilating an animal were added in connection with letters and a package he allegedly mailed to Commissioner Jerry Clark (R).

Litten has been sued by the county in Calvert County District Court in an attempt to force him to clean up debris at his property at 6401 Southern Maryland Blvd., the site of the Sunderland Post Office which closed last year.

In late March, suspicious workers at the Huntingtown Post Office opened a package addressed to Clark and found ‘‘the head and feet of an American Black Vulture along with a note stating, ‘Gerald Clark we know what a sic U R,’” documents state, along with a drawing of a five-point star and ‘‘a picture of a white male with what appears to be blood on his face.”

2. I'm wondering what the (R)'s want his property for.
The republicans in Maryland are investigating damn near ever Democrat in the state. I think we'll be the next Alabama.

3. Actually, I think it's safe to say the guy was certifiably insane.
I mean, anyone who dismembers a vulture and sends it in the mail....I think party affiliation matters not in such an instance.

And IIRC, this guy had rented out his property for a town's post office (the USPS did not own the building) and let it totally fall apart and into disrepair, so much so that the USPS had to back out and close that town's post office. So that was the basis behind the dispute.
