Bush Sidesteps Call for Outside Probe on Iraq WMD

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush on Friday sidestepped demands for outside review of pre-war intelligence on Iraq, but said it was important to know all the facts surrounding White House assertions Iraq's illicit weapons justified the U.S. decision to invade.

"I want to American people to know that I, too, want to know the facts," Bush told reporters at the White House.

Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain has broken party ranks to join Democratic demands for an independent probe into how U.S. intelligence got it wrong given the failure by searchers to find weapons of mass destruction Bush insisted were in Iraq.

The president, seeking re-election this year, gave no sign he planned to yield to the demands. He stuck to a position that the U.S. government will compare in an internal CIA probe the pre-war intelligence with what the weapons hunters have found.

"I want to be able to compare what the Iraq Survey Group has found with what we thought prior to going into Iraq," he said when asked whether he would support an independent probe. <snip>

7. Excuse me?
"I want to American people to know that I, too, want to know the facts," To me that statement implies an admission that they clearly did not have any idea what the facts were before the invasion.

And this sorry ass wants the Nobel Peace Prize?

9. He was taught early on how to lie then duck and hide.
He has been using the same tactics since the 2000 campaign when questions about extensive drinking, partying and drug use were raised and the "Liberal Media" did not follow up. They were "youthful indiscretions" he said. Now he ducks the questions by always bringing up 9/11, terrists, terrism, evil, ad infinitum. I wish there was somebody somewhere who can count the times he has prostituted 9/11 for partisan political purposes. He's a lowlife pimp as it pertains to our national tragedy. Damn bastard...

10. I don't understand this
Why is it that this moron can have the authority to refuse investigations and Clinton couldn't? I guess you have to be a SELECTED born again hypocrite to get your way in today's America. :argh:

11. Dubya should have no say in the matter.
Clinton didn't; and he wasn't involved in such a major issue. What other GOP senators will join McCain (don't hold your breath)-- but the Senate COULD decide to hold hearings, over any and all Dubya objections.
