IRAN says it has discovered a new oil field containing more than one billion barrels of crude.

Oil Minister Gholam Hossein Nozari said the oil field held 1.1 billion barrels of sweet crude oil, of which 233 million coudl be recovered, the Shana news agency reported.

The field was in the area of Andimeshk town in Khuzestan province of southwest Iran that borders Iraq, Mr Nozari said.

Iran is the No.2 producer in OPEC and No.4 worldwide, although its ability to reach oil production targets has been hampered by a lack of international investment.

Besides, Afghanistan is so 2001. It's old news. We're bored with that war already.

Iran is where the action is nowadays.

51. And yet, Afghanistan is still newsworthy
as a pipeline route and a rather expensive/profitable one at that.

Wasn't that the real reason the USSR invaded Afghanistan anyway? To build their pipeline to the southern seas as a shorter and thus, more profitable route?

36. We may be bombing the shit out of Iran in 45 days...
...but, we won't be invading.

It's just not technically possible.

Bush's ego-war in Iraq has broken the Army, Marines, Reserves, and National Guard for at least a decade or more.

43. 233 million bbls, times $145/bbl, equals almost $34 billion
And Big Oil doesn't care if the Pentagon spends $500 billion on attacking Iraq because they know they'll get the right to the oil.

42. Hey! Look on the bright side!
Thar's money in them thar hills! Look for sudden overtures of peace with Iran
to break out all over. Yes, it's only enough to cover less than two weeks of
US oil consumption, but 233 million barrels translated into Halliburtonese
means $32,620,000,000 if you count $140 a barrel. They may not need it, but
they want it.

What do you do when photos of the successful test of your new missile are revealed to have been doctored? Before we answer that question, let's back up a bit and ponder why Iran would introduce doctored photos of long range missiles that could be used to target US/Israeli interests within the region.

This is like the rattle of a snake. Iran wants us to leave them the fuck alone.

Both sides know that Iran is not yet a nuclear threat or if they really ever intend to be. But it is something to aspire to. Just look at what it did for India and Pakistan. Unfortunately, the real loose cannon here is the US under the * administration. Our economy is collapsing around us, due much impart to the invasion and subsequent continued occupation of Iraq that is draining our treasury on a massive scale. That was under the guise of an imminent threat, but it was really about oil. Does anyone still disagree with that?

So, Iran is being threatened and confronted by an insane bully that will be hard pressed to survive its current domestic situation. Oh, and the international standing for the US is like the worst ever. I can only think of two nations that would defend a US strike on Iran. Obviously, Israel would be compelled to support it. (Imagine how "welcome to the neighborhood" they would be if they condemned such action. But that's another discussion.) And the Saudis might support it like a pimp supports a drug whore. Who needs a WMD when you have petroleum that can be converted to petrodollars? Just like Saddam and *, Iran has been playing for time. And the dance card is about to change this November.

There is no new oil field in Iran.

This is bait and switch along the lines of "come and get me sucker." It seems like a very calculated thing to announce days after the successful missile test photos were confirmed as doctored.

There is no new oil field in Iran.

More importantly, why should we care? We need to get off this shit.

48. My guess is that this news has been known for a while. War with
Iran on the nuclear issue would disguise the oil issue. Destroy Iran and then just saunter in and drill that black gold. What is a few more zillions of dollars and all the lives lost in comparison to all that crude. Let Israel start it, we're already on high alert, we'll just charge in with our troops. Must get that stuff soon so Halliburton can get the contracts before the end of ***'s term.

I'm trying not to get more riled up about the issues downing our government but it is one major disaster after another. Makes me sick.
