Apple sells 1 million iPhones in first 3 days
Source: Yahoo News

NEW YORK - Apple Inc. said Monday it has sold 1 million iPhones in the three days following the release of the latest model on Friday.

"IPhone 3G had a stunning opening weekend," said Steve Jobs, Apple's chief executive, in a statement Monday.

But the launch was plagued by software problems. All the new iPhones had to connect to Apple's servers for activation, which quickly overloaded them. Lines of customers built in stores as employees were unable to get the phones working.

Additionally, new software was released for the old iPhone, which required reactivation of those phones. Many owners of the older phone were left with unusable units....

43. mine works just fine... indeed, I synced it with iTunes as soon as I got it
on Friday, though clearly the iTunes servers were busy.

If you don't want an iPhone, don't get one and don't chastise those of us who choose to get one. I personally prefer it to the BlackBerry and I am quite happy with the ease of use, speed and available applications.

45. Huh?
I have both Apple and MS products and like them both with a couple of exceptions on both sides. I think my favorite is the Ipod Nano that I won I'm not fanatic about either company though. I was only asking how people were affording these phones in Bushler's twilight zone economy. Apple fanatics are a touchy bunch.

48. It's exactly the same price as my BlackBerry
I got the 8GB version. It was $199, which was the same as the price of my BlackBerry that I purchased a couple of years ago. My AT&T subscription price is also the same $69.99 that I was paying for my BB service.

So far, I have had no problems with the reception in this area (southeastern NC by the beach).

because that claim is not only a bad exageration, but it's not supported anywhere I have read.

12. First, My Name isn't Francis
second, I don't assume everything is a "conspiracy theory" although I know many who love to make that claim especially when they disagree with others. Usually, maybe not this time, but usually conservatives (for political reasons) love to bash Apple for their funding of the Dem party but choose to nitpick Apple's products. They tend to exaggerate. so sorry for making or alluding to the assumption.

It's not about being a "fanboi" as some one else alluded to. It's a matter of seeing it endless times, especially on political discussion forum.

My one prob with the iPhone, is that it's too expensive and it corners you into using AT&T's service.

29. I don't see people buying 20 cans of dog food
(not for themselves at least)
There are cheaper/better things to eat.

However, it's far from overly pessimistic to look at energy, healtcare, housing, food prices, etc etc etc and see that we could very well be on the precipice of something as nasty as the great depression.

39. Not all of them are working in the UK
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/07/14/iphone_activations/

UK customers who queued up to get Apple's shiny new iPhone last week are still waiting for a connection as O2 struggles to get their SIMs registered and activated on the network.

According to O2, the new iPhone has seen "unprecedented demand" and "several million pounds" has been invested to ensure the processing systems can cope. Perhaps this just wasn't enough, however, as many punters buying the phone on Friday had to face a three day, and counting, wait before they could make a call.

At the same time lining the pockets of the CEO at Apple and AT&T (or whoever is providing access for these shiny toys).

So what length of time contract goes with this baby? One year or two? And how much are the customers going to get tagged for if they have to close the account due to money problems?

I'm stunned at the willingness to sign onto the debt train - just to have the latest FAD. A shiny new pet rock. With an unending cycle of bills so you can find the nearest Starbucks. Sheesh. :eyes:
