Kick-starting the US economy while it's down
Source: International Herald-Tribune

Many economists have concluded that a second dose of government stimulus spending is required to prevent a broad economic unraveling in the United States - and to provide relief to millions of Americans grappling with joblessness, plunging home prices and tight credit.

Democratic leaders in the U.S. Congress are already fashioning a package of measures, even though President George W. Bush and the Federal Reserve chairman, Ben Bernanke, have pronounced such action premature.

At a news conference Tuesday, Bush emphasized that the stimulus package adopted in February - $100 billion in income tax rebates to households this year and $52 billion in tax cuts for businesses - has not been fully distributed.

"We ought to see how the first one works," Bush said. "Let it run its course. I'm an optimist."

He's not an optimist. He's fucking delusional. It's already been shown the first economic stimulus was an utter failure. Now they want to take even MORE money out of the economy? I hope these politicians on both sides know that it's easier to breathe with your head out of your ass.

2. It's a basic principle of applied logic:
If you do something and it doesn't work, then you need to do a whole lot more of it. It's the "if a little is shit, then a lot is shit-hot!" theory.

6. Stupid!!!!! The USA has a mammoth debt load in the trillions and
is sending stimulus money it does not have out. What is $300 or $500 going to do except very temporarily. We need new policies and new leadership. We need to put that money into jobs repairing our infrastructure...into jobs securing nuclear facilities here and abroad...into schools and health care...into the salaries of men and women who will stand strong for the people they represent...and of course many etcs. We need to stop the big corps from going off shore to save taxes. We need to stop giving tax breaks to the richest 1%. We need to cease incentives for the oil and gas and coal companies. We need to give incentives to the creators of new technologies which will reduce the threat of global warming. LET US GET RID OF THE GOPERS THIS ELECTION AND THEN WORK ON ELIMINATING THE WEAK-KNEED DEMS THE NEXT ELECTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!

8. The best stimulus we could have
Would be of course, the end of the tragedy in Iraq. As for here, a massive govt. program to retrofit energy efficient solutions to all govt. buildings. This could be followed by public and private money to start fitting renewable energy sources for any individual homeowner. Rebuild our infrastructure, and by the way how about a green New Orleans and other gulf coast towns. The thing is that all these things create jobs, in a steady stream from manufacturing to installation. See it's easy when you think about it, jobs create wealth in the middle class, ant then more people pay more taxes, which lets the govt. start the cycle again. In five years we could crush opec, and retake the lead in new job fields for the future.
