3. Looks like the bushies are adopting the Obama strategy.
First going in to Pakistan on raids and now sitting down with Iran.

4. If true, this is VERY interesting
and definitely better than bombing them. Politically, it would be interesting to see how McCain can spin it.

5. Remember how Bush denounced the notion of sitting down to talk
with Iran as appeasement?

8. Remember how the Japanese had envoys in Washington
(supposedly talking peace - or so I was always told) when they bombed Pearl Harbor?

With nearly any other administration this would sound like good news, but I fear Bushco is up to no good with this.

15. &Somebody should clue in McCain that:
Finger wagging;

Tongue lashing;

Saber rattling;

Wars of choice leading to:

Conscription:

Don't win in a democracy
or in a world community

'Keep your friends close and your enemies closer'
is a well proven doctrine older than even McCain

10. I can't help but think of the Japanese envoys who were in talks in Washington even
as the bombs began falling on Pearl Harbor.

Cheney wants to attack Iran, and he's going to attack Iran. I don't care what this looks like.

11. Could the Gazprom oil and gas deal Russia just inked with Iran be the reason?

Iran is now definitely under the Russian and Chinese sphere of influence.

Iran should have SCO membership very shortly.

The US has refused to deny reports that it will establish a US diplomatic presence in Iran in the next month.

The UK's Guardian newspaper reports the US plans to open an interests section in Tehran, its first diplomatic presence in the country for 30 years.

The state department said its policy towards Iran was unchanged, but that it wanted to reach out to Iranians.

It comes as the US announced that a top diplomat would attend talks in Geneva with the Iranians on Saturday.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/7510899.stm

and here from yesterday :

After last week's show of force by Iran, now there are growing signs that both Iran and the United States want to do some serious talking about the nuclear crisis. After the harsh rhetoric and the threats, it is a critical moment for diplomacy.

Washington has shown it means business by agreeing to send the Under-Secretary of State, William Burns, to Geneva to join talks between the European Union's foreign policy chief, Javier Solana, and Iranian negotiator Saeed Jalili on Saturday.

It is a major shift by the Bush administration, and the Iranians will understand that.

Earlier this week, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said he was interested in direct talks with the US.

18. Its not just the oil I think its legacy
Consider the BBC report that we may be opening a diplomatic office in Tehran. The nuke talks. The sudden desire to bring massive amounts of troops home before September like he said. The increased effort to find and kill bin Laden.

He wants to be the "peace president". He is taking the war off the table.

I know its wierd but you gotta consider what an ill man he is. He is facing being "the worst president ever". Worst than J.Q. Adams the other son of a president. The one who was not elected by popular vote. The one historians will really compare him too.

The repugs have abandonded him so this is a real FU to them. This leaves them with only the economy to fight on which the Democrats are more trusted on.

It is now all about him. His place in history. His legacy. Me. Me. Me.
