July 20, 2008

SARAJEVO — Forensic experts say they have exhumed 66 Srebrenica massacre victims from a mass grave in eastern Bosnia.

Murat Hurtic, head of the forensic team, said the last bodies were taken Friday.

Some 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men were killed in the July 1995 massacre after Bosnian Serb troops overran Srebrenica.

The Yugoslav war crimes tribunal, meanwhile, approved the early release of Dusko Tadic, 52, a Bosnian Serb convicted of murder and torture, and several hundred women protested Friday in Sarajevo over the tribunal's handling of Bosnian war rape charges.

2. The blood is on Richard Holbrooke and Clinton's
hands. It was understood that Srebrenica was to be sacrificed to the Serbs in exchange for a "peace".

4. Nationalism kills.
It is a true crime that Yugoslavia was torn apart and its people set at one another. Once upon a time, its people lived side by side in national harmony.

5. Eh, no they didn't.
For most of the past several hundred years, the people in that area have lived under a succession of governments that threatened to kill them if they misbehaved. From the Ottomans and Hapsburgs to Tito and Milosevik, the rulers of that part of the world have always been fairly brutal in repressing nationalist fighting. Still, periodic flareups of ethnic violence are nothing new. The only difference in the 1990's was the improvement in the weapons available to the fighters, and the fact that, for once, there was nobody to step in and knock the warring factions back into their places.
