Blackwater plans shift from security business
Source: AP

MOYOCK, N.C. (AP) — Contractor Blackwater Worldwide plans a shift away from the private security business that brought it unwelcome attention following a deadly shooting in Baghdad last year.

Executives told The Associated Press Monday that the negative media coverage and intense government scrutiny has made the cost of doing business too high. They say the company has unfairly come to symbolize all Iraq contractors and thus is a flash point for those opposed to the war.

Blackwater contractors are under investigation for their involvement in a shooting in Baghdad in September that left 17 Iraqis dead.

Regardless of the outcome of that case, Blackwater executives say the company will survive with a focus on international training, aviation and construction.

1. I thought they would be getting into surveillance more.
Perhaps they are, but that's a national secret, like our Energy Policy?

6. And, you're right. From SourceWatch's listing for J. Cofer Black:
In February of 2005, Cofer Black took a vice-president position at the private military corporation, Blackwater USA.

In February of 2007, Black merged his own company, The Black Group with two others to form Total Intelligence Solutions, LLC, an commercial-inltelligence company which services are meant to "bring CIA-style intelligence services to Fortune 500" companies. <1>

4. They're cleaning up the Black Water brand but they have others
and will likely just keep a lower profile with those in the future. Scahill says they're doing business in Latin America, for one thing.

5. And yet they just expanded their "air force" recently. Yeah yeah, shifting from security...
nothing to see here folks, just more bullshit being spouted by the men in black...with big guns, big salaries and a massively misplaced ego.

8. The Chinese might need some help. We're outsourcing everthing else to them after all.
They've got our debt, our factories and now our private army, maybe?

9. There is no reason to believe anything that comes from Blackwater.
Their biggest customers have the deepest pockets in the world, so "the cost of doing business" will never be "too high".

All they are doing is trying to turn down the spotlight a little.. (Their kind of business is best done in the dark.)
