It's unlikely U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler curls up on his mother-in-law's sofa, pundits on the Fox News program The O'Reilly Factor said Tuesday night.

Wexler's challenger has accused the six-term congressman of playing a residency shell game, saying Wexler, D-Delray Beach, uses his mother-in-law's address in Delray Beach while flagrantly making his home in a Maryland suburb

1. There is a reason why Congress is bought and paid for.

You try maintaining two homes on what we pay them. If we want more progressive candidataes we need to increase their housing allowances.

3. I have a plan

The states purchase housing for the members of their congressional delegation. The property would belong to the state and not to the member of congress. The properties purchased would belong to the states, who would maintain taxes and provide upkeep and maintenance.

Those members who do not have their families living with them would have to share a property with others from their state.

Those with families would be able to live with their families in either a townhouse or single family home.

If a member of congress chooses not to use the housing provided they would get a housing allowance, just like military personnel do,
based on their time in congress.

Those members of congress who live within 8 hours travel time by car, of Washington would live in their own homes, that way they could remain in contact with their constituents.

Daily cleaning would be the responsibility of the tenants as would the purchase of food and other requirements.


Can anyone think of anything else, other then giving them more money?

off, that he advocates school choice, while he maintains a house in MD and sent his kids to private school up there. He has no idea what it's like to deal with the crumbling social systems/school systems in FL, has no idea what it's like to pay the outrageous property taxes and windstorm insurance etc, because he doesn't live in FL! My daughter and son-in-law are in the Army. Even when they owned a house in Tennessee they maintained my address as their "legal residence." Their car registrations and drivers licenses are in Florida. Also consider our "snowbirds" who maintain a house up north and one in Florida. Both are legal residences.

I have acquaintances who have much cheaper car insurance than me because they list a relative's property in another state as their primary residence. They just go there once a year to renew their tags.

She claimed her mother's house as her residence for a while, then bought the house while her mother still lived there. Now her mother's dead, so I guess that's her house, though it's probably vacant.
