Robert Wexler's (Rep FL) Delray residency disputed by opponent
Source: Palm Beach Post

It's unlikely U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler curls up on his mother-in-law's sofa, pundits on the Fox News program The O'Reilly Factor said Tuesday night.

Wexler's challenger has accused the six-term congressman of playing a residency shell game, saying Wexler, D-Delray Beach, uses his mother-in-law's address in Delray Beach while flagrantly making his home in a Maryland suburb

1. There is a reason why Congress is bought and paid for.
You try maintaining two homes on what we pay them. If we want more progressive candidataes we need to increase their housing allowances.

3. I have a plan
The states purchase housing for the members of their congressional delegation. The property would belong to the state and not to the member of congress. The properties purchased would belong to the states, who would maintain taxes and provide upkeep and maintenance.

Those members who do not have their families living with them would have to share a property with others from their state.

Those with families would be able to live with their families in either a townhouse or single family home.

If a member of congress chooses not to use the housing provided they would get a housing allowance, just like military personnel do,
based on their time in congress.

Those members of congress who live within 8 hours travel time by car, of Washington would live in their own homes, that way they could remain in contact with their constituents.

Daily cleaning would be the responsibility of the tenants as would the purchase of food and other requirements.

Can anyone think of anything else, other then giving them more money?

11. Nonsense, other reps do it, some even room together. But it pisses me
off, that he advocates school choice, while he maintains a house in MD and sent his kids to private school up there. He has no idea what it's like to deal with the crumbling social systems/school systems in FL, has no idea what it's like to pay the outrageous property taxes and windstorm insurance etc, because he doesn't live in FL! Sorry but an ass!

4. It Doesn't Matter
My daughter and son-in-law are in the Army. Even when they owned a house in Tennessee they maintained my address as their "legal residence." Their car registrations and drivers licenses are in Florida. Also consider our "snowbirds" who maintain a house up north and one in Florida. Both are legal residences.

it's like to pay outrageous windstorm insurance, property taxes and deal with crumbling social system and bad schools. No wonder he advocates school choice, kids are nicely tucked away into some private school in MD!

21. There are some states where the Representative does not have to live in the district.
They must at least live in the state.

That is where the voters must decide whether they want to elect that person or not.

12. He stays at his mother-in law so he has no idea what it's like to pay
the outrageous windstorm insurance, property taxes etc. Sends his kids to private school in MD, and lives in a big house upthere, meanwhile he advocated school choice. Has no idea what its like to deal with the crumbling social system and school system in FL. It pissed me off!

22. There are plenty of repukes who do this
Santorectum, infamously, and currently NJ rep Chris Smith.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Smith_%28U.S._politician%29#Residency

Smith has an apartment in Hamilton Township, near Trenton, as his official residence. However, in 1983--shortly after winning a second term--he bought a home in Herndon, Virginia and has spent most of the year there since then. However, his car is registered in Hamilton Township, and he votes and pays taxes in New Jersey as well. Politicker estimated that since 2001, Smith has spent 395 days and 184 nights in his district.

There must be others. After all, they're repukes.

6. I hate people who do this....
I have acquaintances who have much cheaper car insurance than me because they list a relative's property in another state as their primary residence. They just go there once a year to renew their tags.

17. He certainly has a clue what it's like. Your antipathy to such a strong Democrat is perplexing
especially since this is a hitjob done by Republicans and since Wexler is not just a strong advocate for Obama, he's also come out FOR IMPEACHMENT.

by any means! I'm supossed to forgive him just because he's a democrat? sorry that's bullshit! There are plenty of dems (or republicans as well) who do play the rules, and that's the point!

Sorry, he can't properly represent the 19th district of FL, if he doesn't know what it's like to pay outrageous windstorm insurance, property taxes, and deal with crumbling schools and social systems. He lives in a huge house in MD and sends kids to private school up there meanwhile advocates school choice! What a joke! Just another sleazy politician & not any better than the sleazy repugs as far as I'm concerned. I'm furious and it's time for a change!

P.S. He just wrote a book it rose to the top of the Amazon best seller list. I say he does quite well! What an ass!

If he dupes the voter this way he just another sleazy politician (Democratic or Republican)

18. Elizabeth Dole hasn't lived in North Carolina for over 40 years
She claimed her mother's house as her residence for a while, then bought the house while her mother still lived there. Now her mother's dead, so I guess that's her house, though it's probably vacant.
