Breaking: (Robert) Novak cited after hitting pedestrian
Edited on Wed Jul-23-08 10:42 AM by RamboLiberal
Source: Politico

Syndicated columnist Robert D. Novak was cited by police after he hit a pedestrian with his black Corvette in downtown Washington, D.C., Wednesday morning.

A Politico reporter saw Novak in the front of a police car with a citation in his hand; a WJLA-TV crew and reporter saw Novak as well. The pedestrian was hospitalized but there were no details about the person’s condition. Novak was later released and left the scene.

“I didn’t know I hit him,” Novak told Politico. Novak said he was a block away when a bicyclist stopped him and said, "You hit someone." He said he was cited for failing to yield the right of way.

D.C. police confirmed that there was an accident at 18th and K streets N.W. at approximately 10 a.m. involving a black Corvette convertible and that the driver was a white male.

The intersection is in the hub of Washington’s business district and is filled with pedestrians who work in the law firms and lobby shops that line the corridor.

WJLA has story.

Prominent Washington commentator Robert Novak was cited with failure to yield to a pedestrian Wednesday morning after striking a pedestrian with his Corvette, Novak confirmed to ABC 7 News.

The collision happened about 10:07 a.m. at 18th and K streets NW.

Novak was not arrested. He spoke to ABC 7 News at the scene. Novak said he did not know he had struck anyone.

Metropolitan Police Department (web|news) officers detained Novak at the scene for about an hour.

D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman Alan Etter said the pedestrian complained of pain in his arm was taken to George Washington University Hospital with minor injuries.

I remember a story that came out sometime during the past seven years about some Republican gasbag who hit a pedestrian with his car. He got off scot- free, but I don't remember who it was.

He got loose the other weekend when we had a bad storm here, and I was terrified. But I got him a name tag, and a really nice couple picked him up and called me. So he's home and safe. But I don't think anybody's ever safe from Novak's car, even if we don't even leave the house, given his apparent eyesight and driving skills...:scared:

5. He's too old to be driving.
I remember an old man, who used to come in a restaurant I work at all the time, that creamed the crap out of a car in the parking lot one day backing up, then drove home. We saw him do it. One waitress knew him amd his family well, so she called him at home to ask why he did that.

He claimed he didn't know he had hit anything.

Don't box & label it!
WHen was 51, I moved I had to take all the driving tests over again. The state trooper told me my eyesight and reflexes were comensurate with someone 20 years younger!
My Uncle had to convince my Grandfather that he shouldn't drive anymore..he was 91 or 92 at the time. So he drove well until at least the age of 90 91!

84. Not Dick Cheney!
Dick could shoot the pedestrian in the face before hitting him and drowning him in a bath tub and still not have to give a statement until he sobered up the next day.

And then the pedestrian would be expected to apologize for being in front of Dick's car.

Cheney was "reportedly" shit-face drunk when he shot the guy in the face in Texas. He fled the scene to avoid questioning and law enforcement never pursued it. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/02/13/AR2006021300452.html Now Novak runs over a Pedestrian and says he "didnt even know it?" Ya, sure. When I get stopped, can I tell the cops I'm Republican and the Rule of Law doesn't apply to me? I'm sure it will work.

28. Witness: ‘No way’ Novak didn’t know he hit someone; victim was ’splayed across the front’ of his car
Politico reports that conservative pundit Robert Novak “was cited by police after he hit a pedestrian with his black Corvette in downtown Washington, D.C., Wednesday morning.” Novak initially “drove away from the scene,” but turned around when “a bicyclist stopped him and said, ‘You hit someone.’” Novak claimed: “I didn’t know I hit anybody.” But Washington DC’s local ABC affiliate interviewed the bicyclist who saw the incident. WJLA’s Suzanne Kennedy reported live from the scene:

I just spoke with the bicyclist about three minutes ago. He tells me that the pedestrian was actually splayed across the front of Novak’s convertible, and that there would be absolutely no way Novak would have not known that he had hit someone.

Watch it:

except Jack hit a bicyclist, and pedestrians chased him for a block or so.

Novak is notoriously tight with his money, so if he's sued, he'll probably try to settle and avoid the publicity.

82. As a motorcyclist
I look out for stories like this. Unfortunately, in this country, if you kill someone on a motorcycle you will, at best, get a slap on the wrist. The old "I didn't see him" defense. Until we start throwing people in jail for this crap, americans will continue to drive around not paying attention to anything. Every time I see someone yakking on the phone while driving, I want to reach in the window and punch the living daylights out of them, because the law will do nothing to them.

42. this was a hit and run
Reading the accounts of several eyewitnesses, there seems no doubt that Novak committed a hit and run. The victim was splayed on top of Novak's windshield. Then the bicyclist had to FORCE Novak to stop by placing his bike in front of the car and shouting at him.

Read what this cold-hearted s.o.b had to say about the victim: "He's not dead, that's the main thing." God what a creep!

49. Novak
OK, Bob, It's time now to pack it up and go home. You are old, and no longer credible; there was the CNN hissey fit, the outing of CIA agent, Plame, and now the McCain campaign used you as a fool, and your miserable driving record is in the public eye. It may be too late to leave with dignity - that was gone years ago - so just do it as a favor to everyone as a final gesture.

69. After watching that video
I can't believe the police didn't at least test him for alcohol. Either that or take him to the hospital for observation because he definately looked out of it. I hope the pedestrian is ok. As for Novak, I hope he gets the treatment that he obviously needs as well as a suspended driver's license so that those of us who walk on K Street can feel safer.

He does have one of those virtually every day you know!!! LOL!! P.S. He is not prominent. He is not a commentator nor is he a journalist. But he is a traitor. Oh....Mr. Novak....By the way....The Corvette is not going to make you look attractive and you are way too old to be having a midlife crisis. I'm just saying..... I hope the poor fellow you ran over will be driving your Corvette and will get a big chunk of the money you made by stabbing your fellow Americans in the back.

and said he didn't know he hit a pedestrian. Sorry, but don't they have to be in front of your car to hit them. Wouldn't you kind of notice that you hit someone, even if they did appear from a place you didn't see, to be hit.

78. I'll bet his first thought was of the potential scandal...
or the money it would cost to keep things quiet.

Hearing him talk on TV, I wasn't impressed by any concern for the victim. If he cared, why wasn't his ass at the hospital, checking on the man's condition?

79. I have walked in DC before.....
it is one of the most pedestrian friendly cities I have ever been in. You have 60 seconds to cross the intersection and most lights even let you know how many seconds you have left. There are homeless folks, but I didn't see many where I was. PEDESTRIANS DO HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY. Hope the pedestrian is ok. My first suspicion is a cell phone. Should be interesting.

But I've heard Robert Novak called that, as well. We just have too damn many of them...:-(

And doesn't he feel like an idiot, at his age, driving a Corvette convertible?

Did you see the interview with the reporter on "The Daily Show" who said a witness said he couldn't have possibly have missed the accident victim splayed across the hood of his car?! Jesus...x(
