Most Americans see Obama win - poll

From correspondents in Washington
July 25, 2008 12:06pm

A MAJORITY Americans believe Democratic candidate Barack Obama will win the presidential election against Republican hopeful John McCain in November, according to a Fox News poll.

While 51 per cent say Senator Obama, who is vying to become the first African-American president, will win the election, only 27 per cent are betting on Senator McCain, today's poll says. Voters registered as Democrats are more confident about their candidate's chances than their Republican peers, 71 per cent of Democrats see Senator Obama winning on November 4 while 51 per cent of Republicans believe Senator McCain will win.

One in four Republicans think Senator Obama, a senator from Illinois, will succeed George W. Bush. A month ago, 47 per cent of Americans believed that Senator Obama, 46, would win the election compared to 32 per cent for Senator McCain, a 71-year-old Arizona senator.

Even though many Americans are predicting an Obama victory, the race remains tight. In a head-to-head match-up, Senator Obama leads McCain 41 to 40 per cent among registered voters, the poll showed. If Libertarian candidate Bob Barr and independent hopeful Ralph Nader are added, Senator Obama leads Senator McCain by 40 to 37 per cent.

2. Momentum is a funny thing.
Not too long ago, McCain was polling at 2% with Huckabee as the expected winner of the Republican nomination.

In a good and just world, it wouldn't be close. Bush isn't leaving a good and just world for us, so we still have to worry.

In 2004, Bush "won" and said it was a mandate for all policies and decisions he'd made in his first term.

In 2008, Obama needs to win by like 40% to tell Bush and his kind that everything he did was an abject failure and will be fixed.

4. I guess the domestic media has its work cut out
Their main charge is to get McSame in the white house or else so cripple Obama that he's powerless if elected.

Be ready for an orgy of fake polls and blabbing heads telling you that the race is 50-50, especially as November approaches. This assumes, of course, that Cheney doesn't direct his operatives to detonate a bomb somewhere.

Which state will they do their wholesale disenfranchisement and other election fraud this time? They've already done Florida and Ohio. Which state will it be this year?

5. Lots of states for them to pick from
I suspect New Mexico, Colorado, Nevada and Virginia will be at the top of their list. A little fraud here and a little fraud there could easily tip these four states to McSame

6. A guess...
I'd expect some problems in Florida again, Minnesota, and Missouri because they're toss up states with Republican governors and higher electoral votes. Tim Kaine should be able to keep things straight in Virginia, but then again it's Ollie North country.

The sleeper I'd watch out for though, is Michigan even though the governor's a Democrat. 17 electoral votes and Romney's dad used to be the governor. I'd also expect him to be chosen as VP.

8. if we keep an eye on things
obama will win by 10% and take the electoral votes by a comfortable margin. once the debates start between these two it will be clear to the undecided who is the president.
two factors are going in the democrats favor...housing bill and the emergency unemployment bill which to effect july 6th.
