Anti-war protestors try to confront long-time Bush advisor
Friday, July 25, 2008, 3:22 PM

By O.Kay Henderson
Four peace activists were arrested in Des Moines today as they tried to make a "citizens arrest" of Karl Rove, the long-time political advisor to President Bush. "It should be Karl Rove in that van. War Criminal!" one of the protesters shouted as the four were rounded up by cops. "Where's there justice in this country?"

Rove was in Des Moines to speak at a private fundraiser for the Republican Party of Iowa. The protestors let the police know of their wish to make a "citizens arrest" of Rove, then police arrested the four as they stepped beyond the gate at the entrance to the private Wakonda Club where Rove was speaking. Eighty-year-old Chet Guinn, a retired Methodist minister, was among those led away. "To be silent when major crimes are being committed against all humanity makes us accomplices," Gwinn told reporters just before his arrest.

About a dozen peace activists showed up for the protest. Daniella Bermeo of Ecuador stood at the side of a busy Des Moines street, holding a poster. "Karl Rove is a war criminal and war criminals cannot just be running around like that, like they haven't done anything," Bermeo said. "I'm supporting the cause and supporting the people that he's committed war crimes against."

Am Shahmeer of Des Moines, a former resident of Pakistan, said the small group hopes their message somehow gets through to Rove. "There's people out there who really care, who know what's going on and they're out there to stand up against any injustice that anyone is doing," Shahmeer said.

1. What a country!
Although I'm not sure Rove is guilty of war crimes per se, there is a lot that he is guilty of. He should be arrested.

6. In other words, "evil flourishes when good men do nothing."
Don't know who said this or where I read the quote, and apologize for the non-21st-century pronoun. I'm just chiming in...I agree with Mr. Gunn.

Source: Reuters

DES MOINES, Iowa (Reuters) - Four peace activists were arrested on Friday as they attempted to make a "citizens arrest" of Karl Rove, who was one of President George W. Bush's top aides before leaving the administration last year.

"It should be Karl Rove in that van. War Criminal!" one of a dozen protestors shouted as the four were put into a police van outside a Des Moines country club where Rove spoke at a private state Republican party fundraiser.

Chet Guinn, a retired Methodist Minister, was among those led away.

9. Those are the real heroes.
The real ones are often overlooked and you never read about them in the history books.

10. Rove's a slow learner.
He should know by now that Iowans don't want him in their state. He draws protests every time.

We raise pigs, not listen to them.

11. Awesome!
I love hearing stories like this. It's going to take more than four people to harpoon that whale.

And I have to say, of all the protestant churches in America, I'm most impressed with the Methodists. They are one of the few denominations, if not the only one, that is avidly anti-war.

12. Unfortunately
they arrested the wrong people. Karl Rove was the one they should have arrested. The protesters got it right. Here they were leading the police to a vicious criminal and the police blew it.

13. Karl Rove continues to pose a grave and growing threat to the USA.
There is no way that he is not working behind the scenes to disenfranchise voters and manipulate the election. This man is an extraordinary threat to our nation who has already done irreparable harm.

14. This should be happening in every city in the country. Every time the pasty faced piece of shit
shows his putrid face in public someone should attempt a citizens arrest of the criminal so that he won't be able to go out in public without fear of being arrested. At least citizens have more balls than our congress does.

17. exactly. this asshole should be hounded and hounded and hounded everywhere
he goes so that he can't move about in public.

if he's seen in a restaurant, he needs a glass of water dumped on his head. if he's moving through an office building, he needs to be confronted in the lobby and shouted down. if he's walking down the street, he needs to be followed and yelled at.

this one man has a great responsibility in the mess this country is in. but law enforcement will not do a single thing to him.

what about a site like whereskarl.com that posts where rove will be on any given day so that people of conscience can go after him.

16. Pro humanity folks should do the same
This same tactic should be employed by anyone who is pro-humanity, not just anti-war activists. This man has nothing to recommend himself in my opinion. It's definitely past time for change in Washington.

18. Talk about a miscarriage of justice!
Who was arrested? Not the war criminal, but instead the citizens seeking justice. Shows you just how far-gone this country is! :yoiks: :banghead: :grr:
