Obama's words of comfort for Brown

The Barack Obama global roadshow swept through London with the US presidential candidate offering under-fire Gordon Brown some words of comfort.

After two hours of talks at Downing Street with the Prime Minister, the favourite for the White House said it was much easier to be popular before you were elected to power.

The Democratic senator also emphasised the importance of the so-called "special relationship" with Britain to dealing with global issues such as climate change and economic turbulence.

Dozens of people gathered to chant his name outside the Downing Street gates and around Parliament where he spent a further hour with Conservative leader David Cameron.

But there was none of the "Obamania" seen in Germany when tens of thousands thronged the streets of Berlin to hear him make a keynote speech.

Mr Obama, speaking to a huge crowd of journalists outside Number 10, said he had enjoyed "a terrific conversation" with Mr Brown on the final day of his tour.

It also says that Obama didn't give Brown any advice about losing some kind of election in "Glasgow East", but that wasn't mentioned in Obama's YouTube video in front of 10 Downing Street

You can hear people chanting "Obama, Obama" in the background.

1. He met with Tony Blair and David Cameron today, too.
Here's the one about Blair:

And David Cameron posted his own YouTube video about it, too. I posted that in the Political Videos forum:

I was going to post all three in one big LBN post, but it only let me post one link, so I guess it only wants one story per post.

I hope I did it right.

Every time I turn around, there's something new about this. I'm surprised none of this has been posted on LBN yet.

Actually, only one other, and I posted it this morning.

Cheers, mate.

2. Perhaps the Obamamania is there, but
expressed in a much more restrained manner.

The fact that Obama didn't make a big, public speech in a big space probably has something to do with it, too.

5. No.

Obama is American and the British are used to Americans.

11. Hard to gather 200,000 people in one place when all you're doing
is having private meetings with leaders!

7. So far Obama fares better with hidden microphones
than Bush has with his drunken Wall Street commentary.

9. BBC says "Obamania" sweeps through papers
quite a contrast to what was said in the OP

a lot of interesting tidbits in this summary of the day's news, like Cameron giving Obama some CD's from the "Smiths, Radiohead and the Gorillaz". I don't think he would be giving that kind of thing to McCain.
