Cancer claims Jimmy Chagra
Source: El Paso Times

EL PASO -- Jamiel Alexander "Jimmy" Chagra, accused of leading a 1979 conspiracy to assassinate a federal judge scheduled to preside over Chagra's trial on drug charges, died early Friday morning, his sister Patsy Chagra confirmed. He was 63.

Jimmy Chagra was living in Mesa, Ariz., and had been battling cancer since November, Patsy Chagra said in El Paso.

"That's where he was living with his wife," she said. "He died peacefully, and I think with his wife at his side."

Chagra was accused of leading a 1979 conspiracy to assassinate Wood, who was scheduled to preside over Chagra's trial on drug charges. Wood was fatally shot in the back May 29, 1979, outside his home in San Antonio.
