Title for Calif. gay marriage ban changed
Source: Associated Press

When Californians get their ballot pamphlets in the mail, they'll see a new description of the proposed constitutional amendment to outlaw same-sex marriage.

Proposition 8 on the November ballot had been described as a measure to limit marriage between a man and a woman.

But the Secretary of State's office says that description was changed to reflect a May 15 California Supreme Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage.

The ballot title and summary now describe the initiative as a constitutional change to eliminate the right of same sex couples to marry.

1. That's more accurate and less palatable to the general public
It's always been about eliminating rights, not protecting marriage or anything of that sort. It's gay bashing pure and simple.

2. It's difficult to believe these rights even have to be debated.

11. They really shouldn't be up for debate. These are
basic, civil rights, and shouldn't be put up to the choice of a majority.

4. I've always said that one
should tell it like it is.

I'm glad to see that the Secretary of State of the state of California sees things the same way.

5. I can smell the FAIL.
Folks don't like elimination of rights, no matter what they are.

8. Finally
A name that explains what the amendment is for.

And it will go nowhere....because as everyone will have noticed, the sky has not fallen nor has California fallen into the sea since gays have been getting married. All those dire consequences that gay marriage is supposed to cause simply don't happen....because they're just paranoid bunk.

9. I will vote against elimination
AS strange as that sounds, it's all true!

People are so focused on being stupid.

I love in the heart of Freeperville here in CA.
So much ugly, redneck-stylin' bias here, yet the good news is the majority of the high school kids I teach don't give a rat's ass if someone is gay or not.
I encourage them to sign up to vote when they turn 18.
Some will be voting this fall for the first time.

When this issue comes up in conversation with any of them, I will again encourage them to vote as they believe.
...and that is a very good thing!

12. Good news, and perfectly accurate
I hadn't realized until recently just how many huge ballot initiatives we'd be dealing with in november: on top of gay marriage, we have teen abortion notification, treatment of farm animals, renewable energy, high speed rail, and redistricting. It's going to be a tense election season here even without the presidential race...

14. There really needs to be a rule against running the same initiative over and over again
Just how many times have they tried the abortion notification thing? They keep getting spanked at the polls and yet they keep trying...

15. Seriously. There should be something in the initiative process similar to
how the loser of a BS lawsuit have to pay all costs. Perhaps a law that the sponsors of a 3-time loser initiative are permanently banned from CA, and have to donate all their property to supporters of the winning side...
