McCain calls Obama's stance on Iraq political
Source: AP

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican presidential contender John McCain said that his challenger, Barack Obama, decided on a timeline for withdrawal from Iraq based on political expediency.

McCain, the likely GOP nominee, said in an interview broadcast Sunday that he is not questioning Obama's patriotism when criticizing the Democrat's policies for the war. Obama has called for a withdrawal over 16 months.

"I am saying that he made the decision, which was political, in order to help him get the nomination of his party," McCain said in an interview broadcast Sunday on ABC's "This Week."

McCain criticized Obama's timeline for withdrawal even though he acknowledged Friday that that 16 months is "a pretty good timetable." Withdrawal, he said, should be based on conditions on the ground.

So Obama is patriotic and he'll put the country at risk for political gain?

1. McCain has now agreed with Obama on the timetable
Try as he might to squirm out of admitting it to George S., it's obvious that McCain and Obama are on the same page wrt a 16 month timetable "allowing for corrections after advice from those on the ground." McCain would NOT admit it even after very direct questioning from George. His head started getting red.

4. Then how does McCain explain Bush adopting Obama's timeline?
Edited on Sun Jul-27-08 10:05 AM by bobd0
McCain is hitching his entire campaign to the Iraq war and "The Surge". But McCain never seemed quite able to reach the basic conclusion that most Americans came to years ago -- Iraq was a war based on lies that should never have been fought. And the "liberal" media never bothers to mention that point.

While an important issue, Iraq must be discussed in its entirety, and even then Iraq is not the top issue in this election. McCain should suffer enormously when the discussion turns to the top issue -- the Bush economy -- and the fact that McCain's "economic plan" can be easily and accurately described as four more years.

I almost can't wait for the debates in the hopes that Obama upsets McCain so people can see him lose his cool.

6. McCain Gives Qualified Endorsement to Iraq Timetable
Source: NY Times

First the Iraqi government gave Senator Barack Obama a boost by seeming to embrace his proposal for a 16-month
timetable for withdrawing American troops from Iraq. Now could Senator John McCain, who built his candidacy in large
part on his opposition to such a schedule, possibly be following suit?

“I think it’s a pretty good timetable,” Mr. McCain said Friday in an interview on “The Situation Room” on CNN, before
adding that it should be based “on the conditions on the ground.”

8. The usual empty chatter with confusion . . .
Isn't what McCain saying about the war for his political purpose?

The problem being he can't keep what he said straight. His constant and continuous gaffes clearly demonstrate that fact.

I cannot wait to see him in live debate!

9. Most Americans want the US out of Iraq, so...
The person we are going to elect (assuming our votes are counted) to be our next President...

ALSO wants the US out of Iraq.

What a SHAMELESS politician!

What we need is a STRAIGHT TALKER who will tell us we're WRONG and we should LIKE the idea of being in Iraq for 100 years!

Oh, yeah, I forgot to add:

:sarcasm:

(Hopefully not necessary, but you can't be too careful these days!)
