$150 million lost in failed Iraq projects
Source: WP

THE US Government paid a contractor $US142 million ($A149 million) to construct fire and police stations and prisons in Iraq that it never built or finished, according to audits.

The Special Inspector-General for Iraq Reconstruction (SIGIR) said Parsons, of Pasadena, California, received the money, part of a total $US333 million, but completed only a third of the projects.

Parsons said it had "some serious reservations about the conclusions", adding it was hindered by the unstable security situation in Iraq.

Parsons' work is emblematic of the troubled $US50 billion US reconstruction effort, but SIGIR conceded its "failure to complete some of the work was understandable because of its complex nature and unstable security environment".

where wounded veterans are treated like dirt by this chicken-hawk administration. And McCain keeps saying Iraq is a success.
