A 'big rat' may greet Lieberman at GOP convention
Source: Stamford Advocate

Joseph Lieberman might want to pack some rodenticide if he decides to stump for John McCain at the upcoming Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn.

Some of the same Connecticut Democrats who stalked the senator on the re-election trail two years ago with the famous "kiss" float - a papier mache likeness of President Bush kissing Lieberman after the 2005 State of the Union address - are hoping to make a similar splash at the GOP fete Sept. 1-4.

If Lieberman's detractors get their way, their prop would be a 30-foot inflatable rat, the kind unions typically use when construction workers cross picket lines.

"The 30-foot rat is a big rat. A 12-foot rat you can kind of put in the back of a pickup truck A 30-foot rat you have to put on the back of a flatbed," said Ed Anderson, a New Haven Democrat who helped start the Web site DumpJoe.com.

4. Watch for a sudden need for increased security at the RNC
I wonder how the good people of St. Paul are going to like seeing a police state up close and personal? But then, a 30-foot inflatable rat is just the sort of thing you'd expect to see terrorists using, so it will have to be banned by the police and their Republican overlords. No First Amendment issue here, because the government censorship will not be because of a law passed by Congress.

to find a sympathetic landlord with a building near there who would let them unfurl the rat on a building well within sight?

6. Um...
...I'd avoid the appearance of trying to equate Joe with a rat. Regardless of the truthiness of it, it has some uncomfortable associations that will do us no good.

And they'd be hungry...

16. Lieberman is good target.
He's inherently despicable in his manner. There are certain things to be careful about, however. One must avoid anything that can be seen as racist.

26. I'm not up on all the bigotry, but this is one I hadn't heard before.
Does the term "rat" have some connotations of which I was not aware? I thought it was sort of an all-purpose insult, not specific to any particular group. Have I missed something?

I keep hearing Jimmy Cagney saying, "You dirty rat..." Was there a connotation I missed?

17. Ahhh
Is that because that is his own kind? How sweet. It's not because they call us Democ'RATS'? Because that would not be his own kind. I saw a huge head of 'W' on a news clip this morning with an oil derrick coming out the top of it. As the derrick pumped it worked the jaw of Oil's favorite spokesperson. It was very symbolic. And satisfying to my psyche just as a giant rat greeting Lie-berman will be.

19. 30-ft.-high rat may greet Lieberman at GOP Convention
Source: Raw Story

If some Connecticut Democrats get their way, Sen. Joe Lieberman will be greeted at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota by a gigantic inflatable rat.

Why is Lieberman leaning toward the Republicans now? They're spinning in the drain and you'd think he would want to stay on the winning team.
