Jill Simpson Calls on Pelosi to Find Rove in Full Contempt

Don Siegelman Agrees

by Glynn Wilson

Alabama attorney and GOP whistleblower Jill Simpson is calling on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to allow a vote in the full House of Representatives on “inherent contempt” for former Bush political aide Karl Rove.

In light of the Judiciary Committee’s vote Wednesday finding him in contempt of Congress for refusing to testify under oath about his involvement in the political prosecution of former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman and the politization of the Department of Justice, Ms. Simpson said in an exclusive interview it would be “useless” to turn the case over to the Bush Justice Department.

If the House simply finds Rove in “statutory contempt,” the case will just be turned over to Attorney General Michael Mukasy, she said. And his office has shown time and again that he is not interested in finding out the truth and holding former White House officials responsible under the law, including Harriet Myers and Josh Bolton.

“The time is now,” Ms. Simpson said. “Ms. Pelosi promised when she took over the House after the 2006 elections to clean up. It’s time for her to clean the White House for thumbing their noses at Congress.”

1. I agree, Ms. Simpson, but if I were you I wouldn't hold my breath...
...if Pelosi allows a vote, it won't be on anything but statutory contempt. Pelosi is not interested in holding the administration accountable. Upholding the Constitution, she thinks, will get in the way of her personal political goals.

3. Its what should be done and anything else is just a Bolton/Miers dog/pony show
Not gonna happen Nancy has a book tour to do with Conyers.
Conyers should have started the inherent Contempt vote anyway.

12. On the View Pelosi said she needed a crime....
This could lead to a crime and she might go after it. Forget impeachment just shut everything down.

2. I Really Can't Believe This Has To Go Through Pelosi
I bet it doesn't. The reps are just going to have to put aside their wussiness and do something.

As John Adams proclaimed: "Commitment!"

14. It's about abuse and misuse of power, Nancy Pelosi needs to stop
...focusing on her own ambitions and do her job and what is best for the country right now, not for what is best for her in 2008, 2010, 2012 and beyond!

7. That is all just miss direction and stalling
Conyers could have held him in inherent contempt and had him arrested and brought before the comity if he wanted to
To turn it over for a vote is to grantee that it will be disposed of in a close vote never to be brought up again.

9. She's too busy counting her chickens before they're hatched. I'm withholding voting for Democrats ..
because of Nancy Pelosi NOT DOING HER JOB.

You think you have the Congress wrapped up Nancy?

Think again.

I'm voting Obama and that's it. No other Dems.

10. What I can't get over are conservatives throwing around the phrase “inherent contempt”.
So you mean it's come to the point of the definition of what is is? It's either contempt or not.

Like cleaning her aquarium, or re-doing her bath.

Here is the re-do on Senator Feinstein's bathroom:
http://tinyurl.com/5dyk5u

And as Pelosi's Puppet master, Feinstein knows when to cut her a check or meet her in a back alley with a Hefty bag full of cash. Some of those hundreds of millions of ill-gotten gains offered to Feinstein's husband via Iraqi contracts are serving to keep the Speaker of the House in line. (I am betting on this - don't expect either woman to tell all soon, though.)

It is called PayOff, and it is just one of those other little things that occur routinely inside a Banana Republic like ours.

16. The ironic trade off is if Congress doesn't hold Rove in full, 100%, not pasteurized or homogenized
contempt, the American People will only grow to hold Congress in contempt.

As for Mukasy, he believes he's Bush's attorney.

17. Would this even do anything?
Wasn't Harriet Miers held in contempt too? It doesn't seem like holding him in contempt would penalize him personally in anyway, and perhaps Bush could pardon him as well.

20. If you mean like vagina, life springs from it, so that's in reality heroic.
If you mean like kitty cat, they have sharp claws and teeth, not to mention nine lives.

Weak was a good word all by it self.

22. I agree with you, Imagevision, regardless of your exact wording
I was just thinking of how much she reinforces RW stereotypes of Dems being milquetoast weaklings. Her inaction is also dangerous in a less obvious way, in that some Dems are even refusing to vote for any other Dems (except maybe Obama) because of her, which will have the effect of leaving Obama & all the rest of us vulnerable. I understand the feeling, but to blanket ALL congressional Dems and risk adding the number of goppers in their place sounds just like a set-up or at least the desired result of Rightwingers - to have us so divided that we don't vote for our own party.

As mad as hell as I am at Pelosi and some others, I refuse to play into the hands of gop operatives, whoever they are.
