Suspicious Powder Found at Postal Facility; Addressed to Republicans
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A postal worker found an unidentified powder in an envelope addressed to the Republican National Committee, and inspectors were investigating, officials said Tuesday.

The employee at the Wallingford postal sorting center found the gray, sandy powder leaking out of an envelope late Monday night, police and postal officials said.

The discovery came at about the same time that a white power was found in Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist's office in Washington that tested positive for the poison ricin in preliminary findings.

1. I'm really starting to think we're being played here.
Played for fools. On the Dems' big election day, with Dimson tanking, we've got ricin and now some other powder? It all seems just a little too con-veeeeeeeeeee-nient!

9. If I were Rove
I would be loathe to wave the memory of the Anthrax killer in front of the American People.

No, I suspect that the wheels are coming off in America, and this is another salvo in the march to a hot civil war.

16. We only have THEIR word for it that it's Ricin
Edited on Tue Feb-03-04 12:08 PM by rocknation
They can say anything they want--the mainstream press won't question it. And I'm sure I could try to agree with Realpolitik that this weren't being squeezed in between five Dem primaries and the GOP looking bad in the light of Dem computer hacking and a WMD intelligence probe.

22. Remember when Karl Rove "found" found that bug in 1986
You know, the one with such a short battery life someone would have had to sneak into Uncle Karl's Reichsoffices every day to change?

This sounds just like that.

They are covering for their friend, the Bushevik Anthrax Assassin.

Plain and simple.

I hat Totalitarians and their Stalinist ploys, it's true.

23. Every time there is bad news for the Repubs.
Whenever there has been big bad news for Bush, there is always some breaking news about something not too important to the country, but more in the line of entertainment. But, with Bushes numbers tanking so far and so rapidly, they really had to ratchet it up. Bring in the scare tactic. This Administration is all about FEAR. It worked before, it will again.

I think we need to think about their doing something bigger, just before the election next November. Under the Homeland Security Act, if they raise the alert to RED, we will be under 24 hour curfews, nationwide. No one can go out of their houses. Can't go to the polling places, no election. Great way to win. And the people will be so afraid, that they will bend over to say thank you for saving us!

The head military man from Afghanistan talked about this, upon his retirement. He was afraid that something "terrorist" related would happen, and this Administration would become partners with the military, for the military takeover of America.

8. How many people outside this board know the last attacks were against
Democrats?

A nickle for each of them wouldn't buy me a cup of latte.

Now the Republicans are the heroic targets. In a strange sort of way it is a good thing that Chimp has screwed things up so badly that the media can't keep it quiet any more, otherwise there would be no hope.

28. link to previous ricin attack
thanks to Josh Marshall for pointing this out:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/10/23/national/main579600.shtml

excerpt:

(CBS/AP) The FBI on Thursday offered a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to an arrest of anyone responsible for leaving a package containing the deadly poison ricin at a post office in October.

A letter inside the package said the author could make much more ricin and will "start dumping" large quantities of the poison if new federal trucking rules went in effect, according to information released by the FBI and other federal agencies Thursday.

The rules, which require more rest hours for truck drivers, took effect Sunday.

5. the intial tests showed a positive, then a negative
more that likely it's greatly diluted, the timing is very suspect...my guess is that something similar will keep us on our toes and look to our great leader for salvation.

18. "the initial tests showed a positive, then a negative"
Can you link to this article?

It is all a "dog and pony show". Nelson, Daschle, and Durbin were all on talking about the "terrorists" and the "intelligence failure" when the Senate is closed because of "terrorism".

Durbin cited historical failure of intelligence regarding Russia and it's falling. President Reagan built that up and kept the lie going for his power and military industrial complex profiteering. Kuwait mis-intelligence? Bush lied to Suddam for oil. Iraqi mis-intelligence? Another Bush lie for oil, war, and profiteering, agenda for World Order government.

Nope..it's not intelligence that I fear aren't doing their jobs (the Whistle Blowers proved that) but our leaders in the Congress, White House, and agency heads.

I agree with with the intelligence people..they did their jobs. It seems the "leaders" didn't listen or ignored it. It was a stand down to bring us to war in the Middle East. Leaders of the so called terrorists...Bush/Blair/Sharon. The dots connect to the leaders and the Congress. The President is where the bucks stops. He is responsible for it all. He failed to protect us.

25. any other chemicals that can manifest the same results?
they *say* it's ricin.

How controlled is ricin? Can anyone just call up Union Carbide or something and say "yo, hook me up with some flava?" Isn't it on a government clearance kind of lockdown?

Rove has run out of dirty tricks..he trotted out Pickles yesterday , he trotted out Pat Robertson yesterday, he's really desperate to keep the headlines away from the bU$sh scandal ...now the ricin sent to Republicans..
Gads how low can this guy go to smokescreen? Pretty low I guess.

17. What about that pesky little investigation going on...
of Frist's aide(s) for invading Dem's hard drives and stealing information? Oughtta shut that down pretty quick!

Remember? I know, this one's just about down the memory hole, but what a clever diversionary tactic, wouldn't you say? Sure can't be carrying out an investingation with poison all around... somebody's liable to get killed!

This has got to be what this is all about. How would it have been missed all along those checkpoints? How and why did it just mysteriously show up in that particular site? Uh boy... just call me cynical and go on, nothing to see here. :spank:

I am not buying this at all. Unfortunately, most people will.

Does anyone have, or know where I can find, information comparing "terra" alerts, incidents, etc. and what was going on re: the Dork administration at the time??

I think it would be a very interesting comparison.

31. multi facet PR stunt
Distraction from:

Halliburton was page one again yesterday; this time not overcharges for fuel for the army, but overcharges on food.

More rumblings about Cheney re: Halliburton and his pressure to get the intelligence he wanted, same intel everyone but him is now smearing.

Economy numbers not great this week: retail, car sales, income not up as much as spending and spending pretty flippin flat...

Iraqi defenders making some big scores; flag draped boxes on view.

Dems getting their message out: There are alternatives to the lying and cheating of the malAdministration

And a firm warning to congress on republican side of aisle: You are not immortal; be careful how vocal you get about malAdministration policy and be very careful about how serious any indipendent investigation will be... We will not tolerate any sort of mutiny. Just a friendly little reminder.

Yep, when anything bad happens look who gains an advantage and remember they don't have the same ethical constraints as people who are not antisocial thugs. MIHOP happens and it generally happens to help Cheney and Co.

33. My guess is that the same individual delivered both packages...
This would be someone who is routinely seen and well known by others who work in the building, someone who would be expected and not noticed when delivering any strange package, and someone who appears to be helping local security track down suspects.

Security is so tight now in Washington, one would think the President could take some timeout to address the nation on this crisis..while making every possible effort to see that the criminal is located and arrested. After all, what would be the reaction if this powder was found in the White House? But it must not be a very big deal, to either Tom Ridge or John Ashcroft!
