Powell Says Invasion Justified by Iraqi 'Intent'
Oh please.

"- Regardless of whether Iraq had stockpiles of banned weapons, Washington would probably have decided to invade Iraq anyway because of its "intent" and its weapons-making ability, Secretary of State Colin Powell said on Tuesday."

2. Mens Rea is only part of the equation
and any first year law school student knows this, but apparently, the (un)learned administration missed that part.

7. Talk about a level playing field!
Sounds like Mr. Powell uses the same pseudo-rational thinking that is employed by people like Osama Bin Laden and the 911 hijackers.
Help, Mr. Wizard!

8. Powell has become a cartoon character
Justifying an invasion because of "intent" and weapons-making ability? There must be at least twenty other nations we should be invading then, including a few we call allies. I read this statement this morning and almost fell off my chair. Unbelievable.

11. Hitler wasn't as smart as Bush, though....
He didn't think of having Joseph Goebbels investigate the causes of the war.

18. Do you know anything about WWII?
On August 31, 1939, Hitler sent a group of prisoners dressed in Polish army uniforms to the German/Polish border. He gunned them down, and scattered their bodies around a German radio station. He cited this Polish 'provocation' to justify to the German people and the world his attack on Poland the next morning.

Bush didn't have anyone shot. Bush isn't going to send 6,000,000 people to the gas chamber. Bush DID however, claim that Iraq had developed drones capable of flying to the US and spraying WMD. He claimed they could hit us in 45 minutes. He claimed to have incontrovertible proof.

He sold the American people on the war on Iraq based on a pack of lies, exactly as Hitler sold the war to the German people in 1939.

12. If he has the capability of growing castor beans you can
Because that would mean he has WMD capability.
According to Powell, intent + capability = justification for attack.

19. Should I kill that homeless guy down the street? -- he looks suspicious
And he has a record. Fifteen years ago he burgled a home.

He undoubtedly has intent of doing it again.

Must .... kill ......

oh and by the way he's loaded with cash.

The Observer

I'm really excited by George Bush's latest reason for
bombing Iraq: he's running out of patience. And so am I! For some
time now I've been really pissed off with Mr Johnson, who lives a couple of doors down the street.Well, him and Mr Patel, who runs the health food shop. They both give me queer looks, and I'm sure Mr Johnson is planning something nasty for me,but so far I haven't been able to discover what.

don't ask me how I know, I just know - from very good
sources - that he is, in reality, a Mass Murderer.
Since I'm the only one in the street with a decent range of
automatic firearms,I reckon it's up to me to keep the peace. I'm
going to give the whole street two weeks - no, 10 days - to come out in the open and hand over all aliens and interplanetary hijackers, galactic outlaws and interstellar terrorist masterminds, and
if they don't hand them over nicely and say 'Thank
you', I'm going to bomb the entire street to kingdom
come.

14. How do we know what Iraq's intentions were?
Is Powell basing his statement on the same "flawed" intelligence that supposedly proved that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction?

15. Here's Powell contradicting himself:
" And frankly have worked. He has not developed any significant capability with respect to weapons of mass destruction. He is unable to project conventional power against his neighbors."

http://www.state.gov/secretary/rm/2001/933.htm

So ... which Colin Powell is telling the truth?

Ah yes, one of them is lying.

16. Call out the Thought Police
This would be like the BATF kicking in your door,
ransacking your house, and strip searching everyone
because you "might" use the weapons in your house to break the law.

Or you "might" use the knives, baseball bats, or
shovels to commit a crime.

Or you "might think about" buying an automatic weapon!

Or if you have empty glass bottles, gasoline, and rags,
you "might" make Molotov Cocktails.
