Halliburton Refunding $27 Mln for Meals
Halliburton Co.(NYSE:HAL - news), under close scrutiny for its work in Iraq (news - web sites), has promised to pay $27.4 million to the U.S. military to cover potential overbilling for meals served to troops, the Pentagon (news - web sites) said on Tuesday.

The planned reimbursement followed a refund to the Army by the Texas-based company last month for $6.3 million after Halliburton admitted its employees took kickbacks from a Kuwaiti subcontractor.

2. haliburton is a cesspool of unpatriotic thieves, beginning with cheney,
whose time at the helm influenced their approach to emptying the nation's coffers at an ever-accelerated rate.

3. I am pretty sure they ARE guilty but
they have NOT admitted it yet. And their guilt wasn't established yet.
Boy, I am looking forward to more scrutiny of these *people*.

6. Wait a minute - usually when a contractor overbills U.S. gov
they don't get to pay it back and everything is hunky dory - Particularly if they do it several times and particularly if kickbacks are involved. Better men have gone to jail for war profiteering like this. Wouldn't the kickbacks automatically dictate a criminal investigation?

11. How the hell do you overcharge by 27 mil for meals served?
Huh??

in the article is says ""Auditors found "discrepancies" that indicated the company had overcharged by more than $16 million for meals at a single military base in Kuwait." "

16 million dollars overcharged for a single base--- holy crap, even if you charged 100 bucks a meal that's 160,000 meals...

It's not like some waitress at Dennys saying "Oh, you're right. You didn't have dessert. I'm sorry, I'll take that off your bill right now."

Aren't these the same messhalls that pentagon auditors have called "dirty"?

Hey, the important thing is that Dick Chaney's stock-options are getting more valuable every day. Right?

17. Hey K.B. ~ Welcome! Two days ago NPR reported
Haliburton thought they should overestimate the number of meals because "you never know how many people will show up to eat in a war zone."

Rep. Harry Waxman (D-CA) was interviewed at the end of the report and said Haliburton nearly tripled their estimate, charging for 42,000 meals at a base having 14,000 troops. He's looking into it.

Well, I didn't really steal because I put it back when you found out and I was caught. How about turning your back on those pesky contract oversight requirements so I can have another shot at that cookie jar? Wink wink nod nod.

12. TAXED
That means that Halliburton with a market cap of about 16 billion was only taxed 15 million in 03' that plus this makes 43 million they have given back you do the math divide the two and you get .0026 for a combined total of .2% tax compared to the 20-20% that most Americans pay for. Time to make them ante up!!!!!!!

16. It is a crime what Cheney and Bush enabled in Iraq with their
slaughter. There is no other word to describe it. It is a slaughter and these connected corporations are making money hand over foot on the deaths of children and babies.

This is a crime against all humanity. This should never have been allowed. This is as bad as that which they accuse Saddam of. They have killed thousands on a lie, and their buddies in Halliburton, not satisfied with the ordinary contract , have decided to rip us off additionally.

Disgusted.
