Democrats Seek Unity at National Convention as Runner-Up Takes Center Stage

<snip>

Democratic officials passed out "Hillary" signs to delegates and as Clinton walked on stage, delegates were cheering so loud and so long she had trouble beginning her speech.

"My friends it is time to take back the country we love and whether you voted for me or whether you voted for Barack, the time is now to unite as a single party with a single purpose," she said.

3. Obama NEEDS the Clinton's.
He is wise to include them. Al Gore wasn't so wise... If he'd included Bill Clinton, he would have won by a landslide. Obama is one smart politician! YES WE CAN!!! Hillary's speech was EXCEPTIONAL!!!!

5. GREAT speech ....
Edited on Tue Aug-26-08 10:24 PM by Trajan
I never picked one candidate over the other .... ever ... not throughout the entire primary season (OK ... I would NOT EVER vote for Liebermann .... )

Why ? ... Because I have a set of values that form, more or less, the set of Democratic party values that I had learned, rightly or wrongly, from the likes of FDR, JFK, LBJ, et al ....

Those values were NOT tied to one person ... NOT to one clique or personality .... NOT to any specific candidate whatsoever: but ONLY to the goals and values as promoted by the Democratic party thinkers of the last 80 years ....

This isnt about Hillary or Obama .... it is about YOU ...

This isnt about one group of Democrats versus another ... This is about YOUR and MY children ....

She shut down notions of ego ... she rejected the cult of personality that had surrounded her ....

She was extraordinary ....

Thank you Hillary ....

43. That cult of personality, including some of the creeps...
she had working for her, was what put me off. I was so glad she pushed back on that and pointed out strongly her differences with McCain. If the primary season had been fought on those grounds (who can bash McCain better), the length of the primaries would have been a major asset to the party instead of the worrying annoyance that it became.

Now let's get busy. It's time to bring your "A" game, unite behind Obama, roll up your sleeves; and start mopping the floor with McCain.

No way, no how, NO McCain!!!!!

8. Thank you Hillary! I cried through out the whole speech. Now I know
how die-hard Obama supporters must feel about him. How much he moves them to tears and they want him to win so badly. I will proudly vote for Obama and be happy as clam that Hillary Rodham Clinton is helping us in the Senate. I want her to be around a long, long time.

I can't wait to vote for Barack Obama for president!!!!!!

But, my heart will always belong to Hillary.

Maybe that's hers. This is the reason the neocon ideology doesn't work. It involves putting people in position of power based on loyalty, not talent.

20. Hillary can be a terrific uniter - and proved it once again tonight.
It wasn't her time - yet. Note the yet. I know my mom gave up very reluctantly, and is now a major Obama/Biden supporter, but loves her some Hill.

Hillary did great; she'll help keep us together to win this most important, most critical election of my lifetime. She deserves praise, respect, and the honor that she alone has earned.

I've been Obama for a while; had Hillary won the nomination, there's no doubt in my mind that Barack would be as strongly pro-Hillary as she is now pro-Obama.

Keep it together, Dems - together,

WE WILL WIN THIS

23. What an unbelievable night! Hillary was the Hillary we love...
And Kucinich, he just rocked the house! Because I was such a staunch Hillary supporter, I took her request to heart when she ended her bid, and I've thrown my support to Obama (got my bumper sticker on the car this week!) Hopefully, Hillary has shown some people who weren't open to her, what she brings to the table for Obama. There is a reason why half the Dems in the primaries voted for her. I was so proud of her tonight, and my fellow Dems who gave her love.

26. Wow. She hit this one clean out of the park.
Obama supporter since before it was cool, and yes, during those testy days around Pennsylvania I did curse and gnash my teeth, but she really did great here. This couldn't have been easy for Hillary, but the speech was an absolute barn-burner, she hammered every word like a nail in the GOP's coffin. Here's someone you really want on your side.

45. What a fighter!
Hillary was awesome and her speech was sheer perfection.

Regardless of who you supported in the primaries, this lady made history with her campaign and should rightly and properly be honored for that accomplishment.

When she speaks to the issues of women in this country, it is because she understands those issues personally. She's triumphed over the "boys clubs" in Washington, and she has a right to be proud of her efforts.

Obama is a smart man to try to enlist her as an ally. And Hillary and Bill are both smart enough to know that the country truly DOES NOT need another Republican president, so I believe their efforts to unite the party are genuine.

Pelosi - watch out!!!
