A white substance found on a Metro Transit bus in Minneapolis tonight was powdered baby formula, police said.

The bus was stopped at Seventh Street and Hennepin Avenue, and evacuated when a backpack with a white substance inside was found, said Minneapolis police Sgt. William Palmer. Minneapolis fire sent a hazardous materials team. It wasn't clear whether the formula was in its original package.

Asked whether people are being extra cautious with the Republican National Convention starting Monday, Palmer said: "In any case, we would have probably looked at this closely. We're probably looking at things more closely."

The bus' driver was taken to the hospital, though the reason wasn't known, Palmer said.

6. Back when I was in high school...

Just after 9-11 I remember heading down to the bathroom one morning during class to walk past the library and see the entire thing completely sealed off with plastic and people walking around inside wearing full haz-mat gear. They didn't evacuate. They didn't tell anyone. The librarian thought she saw white powder in a box of books. It was paper dust. ...I love bureaucracy.

Dihydrogen monoxide is a colorless, tastless solid, liquid, and gas that corrodes metals, especially iron and steel, erodes the natural environment, is a known greenhouse gas, a solvent, and used extensively in nuclear power plants. It's so dangerous that OSHA has a Material Safety Data Sheet for it!

Baby forumula is specifically designed to be mixed with dihydrogen monoxide as a binary mixture. So why do they only hunt down one part of the mix???
