Tropical Storm Ike forms in the Atlantic

At 5 p.m. the center of the newly formed Tropical Storm Ike is located about 1400 miles east of the Leeward Islands.

Ike is moving toward the west near 16 mph.

A general west to west-northwest track is expected during the next day or two. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph with higher gusts.

The next advisory will be issued by the National Hurricane Center at 11 p.m.
