Just over a year ago, Denver had egg on its face.

But Denver pulled it off. Delegates were ecstatic. Visitors were pleased. And even protesters were satisfied — at least the 152 who were not arrested.
Hickenlooper speechless?Mayor John Hickenlooper — a man who never usually has to search for words — found himself a bit speechless following the week’s worth of activities.
“It’s hard to put into words how proud I am of our city … of our residents, our city employees, our thousands of volunteers, and of course, our local business community,” he told the Denver Daily News in a prepared statement. “We’ve received a tremendous amount of positive feedback on how safe, clean and accessible Denver is and how friendly our people are,” continued the mayor. “Visitors commented on everything from how vibrant Denver is to our world-class arts and culture scene and our greening efforts. Many told us they’d love to come back for a vacation, to open a business here, or to host their organization’s next conference here.”
Happy visitorsThe Denver Daily News found similar comments from visitors interviewed throughout the week.
“Denver is getting a great reputation. It’s been excellent, just wonderful,” said Mike Taylor, who traveled from Chapel Hill, N.C., to participate in the convention. “The people have been just incredibly friendly; it’s a beautiful, beautiful city and very user-friendly.”
“Everybody’s done everything they possibly could to make us feel welcome,” continued Taylor.

Protesters … well … satisfied overallRe-create 68 lead organizer Glenn Spagnuolo, who negotiated for the release of approximately 100 protesters following a riot Monday night in Civic Center, said he was “satisfied” with the week.
“There were some really good things and some really bad things,” he said. “There were a lot of victories we were happy about … the police changed some of their tactical behavior, which changed the tenor for the week. But overall, I’m satisfied.”
