Log Cabin Republicans Throw Support Behind John McCain
Source: Gay Wired

Log Cabin Republicans, the leading organization of gay and lesbian Republicans, announced its endorsement of Sen. John McCain for President of the United States at its "Big Tent Event" during the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis on Tuesday.

Citing McCain’s refusal to vote with both his party and President Bush for the federal marriage amendment, which would have constitutionally defined marriage as being exclusively between a man and a woman, Log Cabin's national board of directors voted 12-2 to endorse the Republican nominees for President and Vice President.

"On the most important issue that LGBT Americans faced in the last decade-the federal marriage amendment-Sen. John McCain stood with us. Now we stand with him," said Log Cabin Republicans President Patrick Sammon. "Sen. McCain is an inclusive Republican who is focusing the GOP on unifying core principles that appeal to independent voters."

"Sen. McCain showed courage by bucking his own party's leadership and the president - twice voting against the amendment. He gave an impassioned speech on the Senate floor, calling the amendment 'antithetical in every way to the core philosophy of Republicans.' He paid a political price for his vote," Sammon continued.

34. Oxymoron perhaps?
I have never understood how thess guys could be gay and worship anita bryant.
I have known many that claimed to be log cabin members but could never grok
why.
I had a once, but no longer friend that is all about being 'konservative' who vote for boosh
twice, and now plans to vote for mac, I asked why , kuz I'm konservative.
I said you are the least conservative person i know, you do drugs, you sleaze around
you are dating a convict who is in prison again for drugs. I have to go with my gut he says
Well so far your gut has lead you astray quite a few times. How about learning about the
krimes that the current neokons are kommiting in your name..try using your brain if you have any
YOU and how many millions are gonna vote for mac and whoever he picks to do the same goddamn
for the next 4 years? To me (and I'm no clinton fan either) it seems irretrievably stupid
to do the same damn thing over and over expecting a different result.
Ronny Raygun started this deregulation and union
busting stuff and where did that lead us?
So many jobs gone, people homeless, mental
patients turned out on the street with no care.
He says thats just socialist shit and people don't deserve to be taken care of by the state.
Yeah sure, no retirement, no health care, no security cause the reich does not give a fuck about anyone but the rich.. he said so you say.
I said what about the pay outs and tax breaks to the rich corpses?
Dint matter cause I am doing better now than I was 4 years ago and I have health care and I am saving money for retirement and if i have to pay taxes.
I said you are just another selfish egocentric son of a b, so I don't deserve health care because i got hurt on the job and also got sick from hiv at the same time.
I should have been let die so selfish assholes like you can ditch paying taxes.. He says yea so what?
Don't write me anymore , don't call and don't visit, oh and by the way go to hell.
so Sieg Heil MacFail and Ailin.
I have always voted dem, even if it was someone I did not want. It was because it was the least corrupt and least hypocritical choice.
I do not have any more patience. I have been trying for about 30+ years to show what hypocrites they are, claiming to be pro life and pro war the two just don't jive unless it's to make more babies to grow up to be cannon fodder as in the last Reich....

I want to say to them: Give up on it, Log Cabin Republicans, the GOP will always hate you for being gay -- you'll never be a real part of the white man's country club. They'll use you and thrown you down the trash, with a jackboot to the neck beforehand.

Oh, I and I would also like to tell them: Fuck you and your backward, anti-American beliefs.

Edited on Tue Sep-02-08 06:19 PM by brentspeak
On the "white man's country club" thing, that is. I worked as a waiter at a uber-rich country club for a summer, and one of my managers would routinely joke about a couple of the members who he said were gay (one of the members he was referring to admittedly was very effeminate; the other member only showed up at the club about twice a year, so we never met him. Like several of the members, paid $40,000 a year in club membership fees for the privilege of showing up at the club two or three times a year, and get ridiculed behind his back by the manager of the club).

22. From my own experience...
Log Cabin Repugs fall into two categories.

1) The ones who hate themselves so much they vote Repug....like a guy I know who voted for Bush because his Fundie family is so disappointed and ashamed that he's gay, he will do anything to make them happy....like vote with them. This group also includes the clueless dolts.

2)And this is a big number of them.... those who are rich and just want to keep their money.

these Log Cabiners need have their heads checked to see if they have lost their grey matter. No doubt when Palin starts her re-education camps, they have special counselors to turn them straight.

26. Log Cabin Republicans are the perfect example of crosscutting cleavages
They vote for every other repulsive item in the Republican agenda, but disagree with them on gay rights. Who to vote for then? Its actually an interesting group, to my mind. Sort of like liberal Democrats who are rabidly pro-gun, despite liberal Democrats generally favoring gun control.

Actually, I wish them luck in trying to change the Republican mindset on gay rights, however small the chance may be. Anything that makes Republicans more liberal is alright in my book.

Homosexuality doesn't prevent people from being greedy a$$es. I've seen several LCR's on TV over the years, and to a person they were all rich snotty idiots who were simply worried about protecting their own wealth.

36. Proving yet again that Log Cabin Repukes are some of the most
delusional people on the face of the earth.

"The Republican nominee’s recent pick of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate also appears to have played a factor in the decision by Log Cabin’s national board to get behind the McCain/Palin ticket."

Clearly the Log Cabin idiots didn't vet Palin either.

40. Do they not understand if the religious right had their way they
would all be dead? Do they not understand that they are regarded as deviants who don't deserve to live? Does their money mean more to them than their own lives? Why in the world would they vote for McCain, especially now that he's picked as his running mate someone who is probably the most fundamentalist candidate ever seen? Do they not understand the level of hate and fear the average Republican and fundamentalist "Christian" has for them?

I don't get it.
