Levi Johnston to join Palin family at convention
Source: AP

Bristol Palin's boyfriend left Alaska Tuesday morning

WASILLA, Alaska - Bristol Palin's boyfriend plans to join the family of the Republican vice presidential candidate at the convention in Minnesota.

Levi Johnston's mother said her 18-year-old son left Alaska on Tuesday morning to join the Palin family in St. Paul.

Sherry Johnston also said there has been no pressure put on her son to marry Bristol Palin, the pregnant daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

"Absolutely not," Sherry Johnston told reporters outside the family's Wasilla home. Johnston said the two teens already had plans to marry before they knew she was pregnant.

Edited on Wed Sep-03-08 03:16 PM by amandabeech
in a small town in western lower Michigan.

A lot of them grow up to be decent, hard-working people who continue to hunt and fish throughout their life. And yes, many of them enjoy a beer on the weekends.

Some work blue-collar jobs, a few become small businessmen or learn a trade. In my area, some farm.

My Dad was a lot like that. I suspect that Todd Palin is like that, too.

And, yes, they're mostly Republicans. At least until they depend on Social Security and Medicaid which the Republicans are always trying to cut.

However, you usually don't find them running for high office or as members of a family living in the Naval Observatory.

If, heaven forbid, McCain wins, the Palins will present a real learning experience to the beltway crowd.

Teen parents can't get good jobs, particularly if they are minorities. Oh, wait! Todd Palin gets $50,000 a year for a job that he has been absent from for months, so why not get the hapless Mr. Palin-Johnston get a job with the state?

34. Sorta, from what I understand since Sarah became Gov.
he gets time off for official stuff. However, where we work it is shift work, 1 week on, 1 week off or 2 on, 2 off. Also, Todd may be part of the Steelworkers Union but he in now way does steelwork (it is just the umbrella that his job is under). Todd is actually what is called a "facility operator" and makes over 100,000 a year. Nice bank, huh. If he only made 50,000 a year he would be a house keeper(no offense, just saying they are some of the lesser paid workers).

67. Most polticians are impotent when the media decides to make spectacle.
Bristol was dragged into the fray; she wasn't put into the fray by Palin, but by the cover-up/incest folk.

There are then two approaches: Tell them all to go away--like that would work. Or be up-front and be brutally open.

I'd also have gone the "open" route. If cover-up/incest with little evidence is a going proposition, when Bristol in October is clearly with child and it can't be denied, it would be a deja-vu moment minutes before the election. Not exactly good timing. Again, telling people--political adversaries and the press--to go away would be pointless; and the lack of a full confession in prior months would be seen as a failing of transparency and honesty.

That was one of the complaints about Edwards--he denied his acts, and while many forgave him is adultery, and declared the entire issue of whether Hunter's kid is his out of bounds, many others found his not being forthcoming a liability. Of course, in Edwards' case it's Edwards' behavior; in Bristol's case, it's her daughter's. It reflects on Palin like any other similar pregnancy that happens pre-marriage and entails a "shot-gun" wedding; for example, Miss Dunham married Mr. Obama in early 2/61, but had baby Barack in early 8/61, six months later (although reports are both sets of parents opposed the marriage). At least she was 18 when she got pregnant.

However, it says little about Barack Obama's grandmother, IMHO.

49. Do you think his head is spinning?
One day, he's hanging at home on MySpace, texting his friends, listening to his iPod. Next day he is headed to the RNC as the new son-in-law.

Source: yahoo news

Levi Johnston's mother said her 18-year-old son left Alaska on Tuesday morning to join the Palin family at the convention where Sen. John McCain will officially receive the Republican nomination for president. The boy's mother, Sherry Johnston, said there had been no pressure put on her son to marry 17-year-old Bristol Palin and the two teens had made plans to wed before it was known she was pregnant.

64. Will this help or hurt McCain?
From an Independent perspective... do you think this move of having Levi on stage with the rest of the family is a good move by the republicans? Will it ease the concerns of Independents? Or will they see through it?

74. This is very sad
These kids should NOT be paraded in front of the world to glorify unprotected sex and its consequences.

This is pandering at its best and child endangerment at worst.

82. Well, young Levi doesn't have a wife at home.
That really complicated things, IMHO.

Edwards was my first pick. Thank heavens that I didn't get my way!

85. We'll see.
If the kids get married before November 5, we'll hear about it.

But then, when McCain/Palin go down to defeat, we'll never hear another peep about Levi Johnston.

Actually, I read around here somewhere that the marriage won't take place until the baby has been delivered so that Gov. Palin's health insurance policy will pick up the cost for her unmarried minor dependent.
